About the Role

The External Relations and Advocacy Advisor will play a key role in executing MSI’s External Relations and Advocacy strategy under the Chief Executive Office, collaborating closely with fundraising and communications teams. This position drives MSI’s advocacy efforts, thought leadership, fundraising initiatives, partner engagement, communications, and events to ensure the organization effectively shapes global policy and funding agendas. Additionally, the role involves sharing strategic political and situational analysis, evidence, and data with governments, donors, and sector stakeholders to position MSI as a generous and impactful partner. This position will play a key role in shaping and executing MSI’s external engagement strategy across critical sector platforms, enhancing the organization’s visibility, credibility, and impact in international and regional forums. Additionally, the role will focus on cultivating and sustaining strategic relationships with key sector and donor stakeholders. This responsibility comprises approximately 60% of the position’s core functions. This position entails a significant operational responsibility, comprising roughly 40% of the role, to ensure the team’s workflow remains efficient and effective. Key duties involve overseeing reporting procedures, developing and maintaining budgets, initiating and monitoring purchase orders, arranging travel and logistics, assisting with events, and collaborating with internal departments such as finance, operations, donor compliance, and IT.

For this position, the following competencies are essential: Demonstrates exceptional proficiency in both verbal and written communication, with fluency in English. Proven capability to plan and execute major events with meticulous attention to detail and coordination of multiple logistical elements. Strong collaboration with the global team is essential, along with the capacity to effectively handle a demanding and varied workload while consistently meeting tight deadlines, even when spanning multiple time zones. Proficient in conducting thorough analysis and research, with a strong aptitude for distilling intricate documents into clear, concise summaries. Demonstrated proficiency in delivering comprehensive policy analysis and distilling intricate details into actionable, easily understandable recommendations tailored to varied stakeholders. Exceptional aptitude for both written and oral communication, ensuring clarity and impact in all interactions. Proven capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining efficiency under demanding circumstances. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also functioning independently with a strong sense of self-motivation and proactive drive. Individuals must possess an in-depth understanding of the Microsoft Office suite, including PowerPoint, as well as proficiency in Canva. Highly desirable is a strong familiarity with Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Fluency in French, desirable.

For this position, the following qualifications and experience are required: Experienced in collaborating with and supporting multifaceted priorities across diverse teams. Proven ability to analyze and synthesize intricate documents effectively. Experienced in representing an organization in external settings. Experienced in establishing and sustaining comprehensive support frameworks within office settings. Experienced in overseeing administrative duties, particularly in budget management, procurement of purchase orders, and coordination of logistics for external events. Formal education/qualification Professional Version: While formal education is not mandatory, equivalent qualifications obtained through relevant experience are fully acceptable for consideration. Location: London, UK (with a requirement to work on-site for a minimum of two days per week) or at any of the countries where MSI operates a program. Full-time: A full-time position, requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week, structured from Monday through Friday. Contract type: Permanent. Salary: Salaries for UK-based candidates range between £34,200 and £42,750. For international applicants, compensation will be determined in accordance with the prevailing national salary standards.
