About the Role
The External Relations and Advocacy Advisor will play a key role in executing MSI’s External Relations and Advocacy strategy under the Chief Executive Office, collaborating closely with fundraising and communications teams. This position supports MSI’s advocacy initiatives, thought leadership, fundraising efforts, partner engagement, communications, and events to ensure the organization effectively shapes global policy and funding decisions. Additionally, the role involves sharing political and situational analyses, evidence, and data as a strategic and generous partner to governments, donors, and the broader sector. This position will play a key role in shaping and managing MSI’s external presence within critical industry arenas, enhancing the organization’s visibility, credibility, and impact in international and regional forums while fostering and sustaining robust partnerships with key sector professionals and donor entities. This responsibility will constitute approximately 60% of the role’s core functions. This position entails a significant operational focus, accounting for roughly 40% of the role, aimed at ensuring the team’s workflow remains efficient and effective. Key duties will involve overseeing reporting procedures, developing and maintaining budgets, initiating and monitoring purchase orders, organizing travel and logistics arrangements, assisting with event planning, and collaborating with internal departments such as finance, operations, donor compliance, and IT.

Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for this position, the following competencies are required: Proficient in both verbal and written communication, with a strong command of the English language. Proven capability in planning and executing major events on a large scale. The candidate must demonstrate exceptional collaborative skills with cross-functional teams worldwide, effectively managing a demanding and varied workload while consistently meeting rigorous deadlines across multiple time zones. Individuals must possess strong analytical and research capabilities, enabling them to distill intricate documents into clear, concise summaries. Demonstrates expertise in conducting thorough policy analysis and distilling intricate information into actionable, easily understandable recommendations tailored to a variety of audiences. Exhibits exceptional proficiency in both written and oral communication. Demonstrated capability to effectively prioritize tasks and maintain performance standards under tight deadlines and high-pressure scenarios. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in team settings while independently driving projects forward with a proactive approach and strong initiative. Possesses an extensive proficiency in utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, and Canva. A strong understanding of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) is considered a significant advantage. Fluency in French is desirable. For this position, the ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications and experience: Seasoned professionals with a proven track record in collaborating with and supporting a broad spectrum of priorities across multifaceted teams. Proven ability to evaluate and integrate information from intricate and multifaceted documents. Experienced in serving as an external representative for an organization. Proven track record in establishing and sustaining operational support systems within an office setting. Experienced in overseeing administrative operations such as budget management, procurement of purchase orders, and coordinating logistics for external events. Formal education/qualification: A formal degree is not a prerequisite; relevant experience serves as the primary qualification for this position.
Location and Contract Details
Location: London, UK (with a requirement to be present on-site for a minimum of two days per week) or within any country where MSI implements its programs. Full-time: A full-time schedule of 35 hours per week, structured from Monday through Friday, is required. Contract type: Permanent. Salary: Salaries range from £34,200 to £42,750 for applicants based in the UK. For candidates from other countries, compensation will be determined within the relevant local salary framework. Salary band: BG 7. Closing date for applications is 30th July at midnight BST. Interviews for standout candidates may be scheduled prior to that date. For internal applicants from a country program in an MSI-eligible nation, compensation will align with the prevailing salary framework of that country, and all local employment terms and conditions will remain applicable.
