About the Role

The External Relations and Advocacy Advisor will assist in executing MSI’s External Relations and Advocacy strategy within the Chief Executive Office, collaborating closely with fundraising and communications teams. This position plays a key role in advancing MSI’s advocacy efforts, thought leadership, fundraising initiatives, partner engagement, communications, and events, ensuring the organization’s impactful influence on global policy and funding determinations. Additionally, the role involves sharing political and situational analysis, evidence, and data as a proactive and strategic partner to governments, donors, and the broader sector. This position will play a key role in shaping and managing MSI’s external presence across critical industry networks, enhancing its visibility, credibility, and impact in international and regional forums while fostering and sustaining strategic relationships with essential sector and donor stakeholders. This responsibility will account for roughly 60% of the position’s duties. This position encompasses a significant operational component—accounting for roughly 40% of responsibilities—to ensure the team’s work operates seamlessly. Key duties involve overseeing reporting procedures, developing and maintaining budgets, initiating and monitoring purchase orders, arranging travel and logistics, assisting with event coordination, and collaborating across internal departments such as finance, operations, donor compliance, and IT.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Fluent in both spoken and written English, with exceptional communication abilities. Demonstrated expertise in planning and executing extensive event coordination. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a global team while managing a broad and complex workload, consistently meeting challenging deadlines across multiple time zones. Proven proficiency in analytical thinking and research, demonstrated through the capacity to deliver succinct and insightful summaries of intricate documents. Ability to deliver thorough policy analysis and distill intricate details into accessible insights tailored to varied stakeholders. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Capable of efficiently managing multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining performance standards in high-pressure situations when necessary. Professional and proactive individual capable of working effectively both independently and collaboratively, demonstrating strong initiative and a collaborative mindset. Highly proficient in utilizing the Microsoft Office suite, PowerPoint, and Canva, with an exceptional level of expertise.

Desirable Qualifications

Highly desirable candidates will possess a strong understanding of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Fluency in French, desirable.

Required Experience

Experienced in collaborating with and providing support to cross-functional teams with diverse priorities and objectives. Analytical and synthesis expertise in interpreting intricate documents is essential. Experienced in serving as a public face for an organization, engaging with stakeholders, clients, and the broader community to effectively communicate its values, initiatives, and objectives. Proven track record in establishing and sustaining operational support frameworks within corporate settings. Accomplished professionals should possess a proven track record in administrative operations, specifically in overseeing budgets, processing purchase orders, and coordinating logistics for external events.

Formal Education/Qualification

Professional experience serves as a sufficient qualification for this position, eliminating the need for formal educational credentials. Please refer to the attached job description for detailed information regarding the role.

Location: London, UK (with a minimum in-office presence of two days per week) or any country where MSI implements its programs.

Full-time: A full-time schedule of 35 hours per week, structured from Monday through Friday.

Contract type: Permanent.

Salary: Salaries for UK-based candidates range from £34,200 to £42,750. For applicants outside the UK, compensation will be determined within the relevant national pay structure. Salary band: BG 7. For internal applicants from an MSI country program, this position will align with the established salary framework of the respective country. The local terms and conditions governing employment in that country will be applicable.
