About the Role
The External Relations and Advocacy Advisor will assist in executing MSI’s External Relations and Advocacy strategy within the Chief Executive Office, collaborating closely with fundraising and communications teams. This position plays a key role in advancing MSI’s advocacy efforts, thought leadership, fundraising initiatives, partner engagement, communications, and events, ensuring the organization effectively shapes global policy and funding outcomes. Additionally, the role involves sharing political and situational analysis, evidence, and data as a collaborative and strategic partner to governments, donors, and the broader sector. This position will play a key role in shaping and managing MSI’s external presence across critical industry platforms, enhancing its visibility, credibility, and impact within international and regional forums. Additionally, it will involve cultivating and maintaining robust partnerships with essential sector leaders and donor organizations, which will account for roughly 60% of the responsibilities. This position also encompasses a significant operational focus (approximately 40%), ensuring the team’s workflow remains efficient and effective. Key duties will involve overseeing reporting procedures, developing and administering budgets, initiating and monitoring purchase orders, arranging travel and logistical arrangements, assisting with event coordination, and collaborating with internal departments such as finance, operations, donor compliance, and IT.

To qualify for this position, the following skills are required:
Fluent in both verbal and written English communication, with exceptional proficiency in articulating ideas clearly and effectively. Proven capability in planning and executing events on a grand scale. Collaborates effectively with a global team and adeptly handles a demanding, multifaceted workload while consistently meeting strict deadlines across various time zones. Proficient in analytical thinking and research, with a strong capacity to distill intricate documents into clear, concise summaries. Demonstrates exceptional proficiency in conducting thorough policy analysis and distilling intricate details into concise, actionable recommendations tailored for varied stakeholders. Exhibits outstanding written and verbal communication skills, ensuring clarity and effectiveness in conveying insights to diverse audiences. Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple tasks concurrently and perform effectively in high-pressure situations. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment while independently driving tasks forward with a strong sense of motivation and proactivity. Individuals must possess expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, and Canva to be considered for this role. Highly desirable is a strong background in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Fluency in French, desirable.
For this position, the following qualifications and experience are required:
Experienced in collaborating with and providing support to cross-functional teams with competing priorities. Experienced in evaluating and interpreting intricate documentation, with a proven ability to distill key insights and integrate information from diverse sources. Provided proof of representing an organization in external interactions. Accomplished in establishing and sustaining comprehensive support frameworks within corporate office settings. Experienced in overseeing administrative operations such as budget management, procurement of purchase orders, and coordination of logistics for external events. Formal education/qualification: Relevant professional experience may substitute for formal education in fulfilling the role’s requirements.
Location: London, UK (with a minimum in-office requirement of two days per week) or at any of the countries where MSI implements its programs.
Full-time: The position requires a commitment of 35 hours per week, structured from Monday through Friday.
Contract type: Permanent.
Salary: The salary range for UK-based candidates is £34,200 to £42,750. For international applicants, compensation will be determined based on local salary benchmarks. Salary band: BG 7.
