CARE - INNOVATE – TOGETHER:
Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has reached more than 18 million beneficiaries in 15 countries, mainly in Africa. In 2024, we developed 59 medical humanitarian response projects to meet the needs of populations affected by conflict, epidemics and extreme poverty.
All of these projects support national health authorities through health facilities (including hospitals and health centres). Our action stems from a constant adaptation to the realities of the field and the progress of medicine. In 2024, ALIMA reached 5.9 million beneficiaries.
We work in partnership, especially with local NGOs, as soon as possible to ensure that our patients benefit from the expertise where it is located, whether at the level of their country or the rest of the world. In addition, to improve the humanitarian response, we carry out operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the field of
Against malnutrition and hemorrhagic viral fevers.

Job overview
CONTEXT OF THE MISSION: ALIMA programmes in Chad
Chad is experiencing a severe food and nutrition crisis, exacerbated by large influxes of people but also by its vulnerability to natural disasters and epidemics.
ALIMA started its activities in Chad in 2012 in partnership with the Chadian medical NGO Alerte Santé.
In 2012, the project in Ngouri Health District, Lake Province was implemented with support from ECHO, OFDA, UNICEF and WFP. Within the framework of this project, the focus has been on improving the quality of care, a major challenge in Chad given the difficulties in mobilizing qualified medical skills. Since 2021, Alerte Santé & ALIMA has been leading the OptiMA study project in Ngouri, Dibinitchi and Isserom’s DS with financial support from Givewell as well as the CRESH resilient hospital project with support from several foundations.
Location
From April 2013, ALIMA & Health Alert also support the management of MAS in N’Djamena. Before the implementation of this project of ALIMA & AS, only the dispensary of Our Lady of the Apostles in the Southern District, offered free care for malnutrition in the capital. With two years of activities, the project has shown the extent of malnutrition in urban areas (in N’Djamena where the rate of MAS reaches 2.8%).
Since 2021, an OptiMA study project has been underway at the UNT of HATC in N’Djamena.
ALIMA has also been running a community project in the 9th district of N’Djamena since 2022 in partnership with the French Development Agency for the treatment and prevention of malnutrition.
In the Lake Chad Basin, the humanitarian situation has deteriorated as a result of increased attacks by NSAGs and the effects of climate change.
Since 2019, ALIMA/AS has been providing free, quality medical and nutritional care to children under 5 years of age and free preventive and curative health care to displaced populations and Liwa DS hosts affected by the Lake Crisis. The ALIMA/AS approach provides medical and nutritional care in areas far from health centres and thus allows access to health care for displaced populations.
In response to the Sudanese crisis and the influx of Sudanese refugees in Chad, ALIMA intervened as early as 2023 to carry out health and nutrition activities for refugees and host communities in the east of the country. ALIMA is currently working in the province of SILA, supporting the medical care of patients at refugee sites as well as in a health centre.
Thanks to its extensive coverage and the recognized quality of its intervention, ALIMA is part of Chad as a major player in health.
Between January and September 2024, ALIMA treated more than 35,000 cases of acute malnutrition in children under 6 years of age, almost 9% of the country’s total care.
During the same period, 1,40669 outpatient consultations, 1,146 hospitalizations and 13,000 home visits were carried out by our teams in all of our operating areas.
