Senior Operations Manager We invite you to become part of our esteemed leadership team at Kazue National Park. Position Purpose The Senior Operations Manager spearheads the Park’s Conservation and Operations division, providing strategic oversight of operational planning, infrastructure development and upkeep, fleet management, logistics, procurement, law enforcement assistance, and additional operational initiatives. This position guarantees that operational frameworks, resources, and staff are aligned to advance the Park’s conservation goals effectively. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will: As the leader, you will develop, implement, monitor, and review the Conservation and Operations work plan and budget, ensuring alignment with the Park Strategy and Five-Year Business Plan. The Conservation and Operations team must be furnished with adequate personnel, equipment, finances, and operational support to fulfill its responsibilities effectively. Provide strategic direction and guidance for the planning, execution, and ongoing maintenance of infrastructure projects while maintaining rigorous budget management and effective cost control measures. Ensure adherence to established procurement policies and procedures, encompassing tender processes, contractor oversight, and contract administration. Oversee the Park’s entire fleet, encompassing vehicles, aircraft, boats, and additional operational assets, while ensuring strict compliance with all licensing, permit obligations, maintenance schedules, and preventive servicing mandates. Foster and uphold a robust culture of health, safety, and risk management throughout all operational processes. Manage logistics, procurement, warehousing, and inventory processes to maintain operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Provide essential logistical support, equipment, and operational resources to ensure the Law Enforcement function is effectively managed, developed, and operationally prepared. Coordinate and facilitate law enforcement training initiatives, encompassing refresher courses, advanced training sessions, and in-house programs, in partnership with the Law Enforcement Advisor. Assist in wildlife translocation projects and contribute to conservation efforts as needed. Provide operational support to research partners, visiting scientists, film crews, and other authorized stakeholders. Develop and implement the Park’s fire management strategy by overseeing staff training, equipment upkeep, and continuous operational preparedness. Develop and sustain a high-performing, values-driven team culture by fostering accountability, collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement. Ensure that all operational activities are executed in full compliance with African Parks’ established policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Compile and deliver precise operational reports and performance summaries to the Park Manager in accordance with established deadlines. Represent the Park Manager in their absence or when specifically assigned to do so. Provide strategic direction and leadership to a team of eight managers, ensuring operational activities are executed efficiently and effectively to achieve organizational objectives. Minimum Qualifications and Experience Individuals interested in this opportunity must meet the following qualifications: A degree or diploma in Conservation Management, Wildlife Management, or Natural Resource Management is required. Project Management, Operations Management, or a closely related field is required. Practical experience of an equivalent nature may also be taken into consideration. A minimum of A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible professional experience is required. We seek candidates with a strong background in protected area management, conservation operations, or large-scale project management, preferably. Professional experience in conservation law enforcement is required, encompassing operational planning, security management, and personnel development initiatives. Prior experience in conservation, non-governmental, or public sector organizations is highly desirable. Experienced in thriving in diverse, remote, and rural settings, including multicultural contexts. Fluent and articulate English communication skills, both written and verbal, coupled with exceptional report preparation and presentation abilities. Accomplished interpersonal and communication abilities, enabling seamless interaction across all levels of the organization. Proficiency in financial management, encompassing budget preparation, cost containment strategies, and strategic resource allocation, is essential. Demonstrated expertise in overseeing numerous intricate projects while coordinating diverse, cross-functional teams with efficiency and precision. Seasoned in cultivating and maintaining influential relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders, including governmental bodies, local communities, tourism enterprises, and collaborative development partners.
