The Perioperative Nurse delivers exceptional, evidence-based nursing care to patients undergoing surgical and invasive procedures, ensuring safety and adherence to clinical standards. Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team, the role encompasses preoperative assessments, intraoperative advocacy, and postoperative monitoring, while also advancing clinical teaching, mentoring nursing staff and students, and driving continuous quality improvement initiatives to uphold perioperative excellence. Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and evaluating perioperative care plans; conducting thorough preoperative evaluations; vigilantly monitoring intraoperative vital signs; assisting surgeons and anesthetists with aseptic techniques; providing comprehensive postoperative care; and educating patients and families on recovery and discharge protocols. The position ensures meticulous documentation, compliance with Rwanda Hospital Accreditation Standards, and active participation in adverse event reporting, surgical audits, and infection prevention reviews. Additionally, the nurse oversees the proper sterilization, maintenance, and inventory of surgical instruments and equipment, reports deficiencies, and promptly communicates incidents in line with hospital policies. Responsibilities extend to mentoring new staff and students, delivering in-service training, and engaging in professional development to integrate evidence-based practices. Strong collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills are essential for effective team coordination, patient advocacy, and adherence to ethical and cultural standards. Candidates must hold a Master of Science in Perioperative Nursing, possess a valid Rwandan nursing license, and have a minimum of five years of perioperative or surgical nursing experience, preferably in a teaching or referral hospital. Demonstrated expertise in clinical teaching, mentorship, and supervision is required, along with familiarity with national clinical protocols, infection prevention standards, and surgical safety checklists. Proficiency in basic computer skills, electronic medical records, and perioperative outcome analysis is necessary, alongside fluency in English and Kinyarwanda, with French as an asset.
