About the Role
The External Relations and Advocacy Advisor will collaborate with the Chief Executive Office to execute MSI’s External Relations and Advocacy strategy, engaging closely with fundraising and communications teams. This position plays a pivotal role in advancing MSI’s advocacy efforts, thought leadership, fundraising initiatives, partner engagement, communications, and events to enhance MSI’s influence over global policy and funding determinations. Additionally, the role involves disseminating political and situational analysis, evidence, and data to position MSI as a generous and strategic partner for governments, donors, and the broader sector. This position will play a pivotal role in shaping and managing MSI’s external presence across critical industry platforms, enhancing the organization’s visibility, credibility, and impact in both international and regional forums. Additionally, it will involve cultivating and sustaining robust partnerships with key figures in the sector and among donors. Approximately 60% of the role’s responsibilities will be dedicated to these efforts. This position encompasses a substantial operational responsibility—approximately 40% of the role—focused on ensuring the team’s workflow operates efficiently. Key duties will involve overseeing reporting procedures, developing and maintaining budgets, initiating and monitoring purchase orders, arranging travel and logistical arrangements, facilitating events, and collaborating with internal departments such as finance, operations, donor compliance, and IT.

Proficient in both verbal and written English communication, with fluency as a key requirement. Proven capability to plan and execute major events on a large scale. Demonstrates exceptional teamwork with global colleagues while effectively balancing a demanding and varied workload. Must excel at meeting stringent deadlines, even when coordinating across multiple time zones. Demonstrated proficiency in analytical and research capabilities, coupled with a talent for distilling intricate documents into clear, succinct summaries. Proven ability to deliver insightful policy analysis and distill intricate information into actionable, comprehensible recommendations tailored to varied stakeholders. Exceptional proficiency in both written and oral communication, ensuring clarity and impact across diverse audiences. Demonstrated capability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously and perform optimally under demanding or high-pressure situations. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also exhibiting strong self-motivation and the capacity to take independent initiative. Individuals must possess exceptional proficiency in utilizing the Microsoft Office suite, specifically PowerPoint, along with expertise in Canva. Highly desirable candidates will possess a solid understanding of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Fluency in French is desirable.
Qualifications and Experience
Proven track record in collaborating with and supporting multifaceted priorities across diverse team environments. Analytical and synthesis skills honed through extensive experience in evaluating and integrating intricate documentation are required. Skilled in serving as an external representative for an organization. Proven track record in establishing and sustaining operational support systems within an office setting. Experience in overseeing administrative tasks such as budget management, procurement of purchase orders, and coordination of logistics for external events is required. Formal education/qualification: Relevant professional experience in the field is considered a suitable qualification for this position, eliminating the need for formal educational credentials. Location and Working Conditions
Location: London, UK (with a requirement to work on-site for a minimum of two days per week) or within any of the countries where MSI implements its programs. Full-time: Monday through Friday, this position requires a commitment of 35 hours per week. Contract type: Permanent.
Salary
The salary for UK-based candidates ranges from £34,200 to £42,750. For international applicants, remuneration will be adjusted according to the prevailing national salary standards. Salary band: BG 7. For internal candidates originating from an MSI country program, this position will be integrated into the existing country-specific salary framework, with all local terms and conditions remaining applicable.
