Job Summary
The Crop Scout plays a vital role in the company's agricultural operations by conducting thorough crop inspections in the fields. Their primary objective is to assess plant health, identify diseases, weed infestations, and pest outbreaks. By providing accurate and timely information, the Crop Scout enables the company to make informed decisions crucial for optimizing crop yield, quality, and overall farm productivity. This position operates under the direction of the Technical Supervisor - Agronomy, providing essential field insights to support strategic agronomic planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Planning (15%)
Plan the order of fields to be monitored according to the established schedule.
2. Field Monitoring and Inspection (25%)
Conduct weekly field visits to assess crop health and potential risks.
Identify and report potential pests and diseases.
Perform yield estimates each week.
Take photos; carry out soil and tissue sampling.
Notify security in case of theft or potential crop destruction.
3. Recording and Reporting (20%)
Collect and record data on pests, diseases, and weeds in a given field.
Make recommendations based on field conditions.
Communicate any irregular situations to the agronomist for estimates.
4. Support for Research and Development Efforts (15%)
Supervise temporary workers in the preparation and planting of sentinel plots.
Monitor crop trials and sentinel plots.
Participate in research projects as needed.
5. Quality Control (15%)
Ensure planting density is within required thresholds, seeds are covered and planted under good conditions.
Ensure sprayer nozzles deliver desired volumes and are not clogged.
Ensure correct fertilizer application rates and proper distribution.
Ensure minimal losses during harvest.
6. Various tasks that may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time (5%)

Geographic Area: Uganda
Desired Profile
Qualifications: Certificate or Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Protection, or related field.
Experience: At least 1 to 2 years of experience in a similar role in an agricultural or farming environment. Experience with crop monitoring tools or digital data collection is an asset.
Business Knowledge: Knowledge of common pests, diseases, and weeds affecting crops.
