Job title: Manager, WWF GEF Portfolio – Tanzania Duty station: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania Level: Manager Reports to: As the Head of Business Development for WWF Tanzania and Senior Director of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) at WWF, this role involves leading strategic initiatives to expand partnerships and secure funding, ensuring alignment with WWF’s mission and conservation goals. The position requires extensive experience in business development, stakeholder engagement, and resource mobilization, along with a deep understanding of environmental funding mechanisms. Key responsibilities include cultivating high-level relationships with governments, private sector entities, and donors, while overseeing the implementation of GEF-funded projects that advance biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. BACKGROUND WWF GEF Agency and WWF Tanzania are actively expanding their GEF portfolio in Tanzania, seeking a Manager to spearhead country-level coordination, strategic development, and portfolio oversight in close collaboration with national government institutions and key partners. MAIN FUNCTION The Manager is responsible for managing the WWF GEF portfolio in Tanzania , including:
- Project identification and design
- Oversight of implementation and compliance
- Coordination with government and partners Contribute to the successful implementation of GEF-funded initiatives at the national level by ensuring timely and efficient execution of project deliverables and outcomes. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1) National project origination and pipeline development
In partnership with government stakeholders, identify and cultivate WWF GEF Agency project opportunities in Tanzania. Lead the development of comprehensive concept notes and project documentation, assuming the role of GEF Agency for WWF, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and compliance requirements. Ensure that all initiatives and activities are fully compliant with national priorities as well as the mandates and requirements set forth by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). 2) Project development and quality assurance Spearhead the orchestration and management of WWF GEF Agency initiatives, guiding their progression through the comprehensive project lifecycle from inception to completion. Offer expert technical recommendations to guarantee robust design solutions and meaningful outcomes. Ensure adherence to WWF and GEF policies throughout the development process.
- Manage internal review and submission processes 3) Portfolio oversight and implementation support Responsible for managing the execution of WWF GEF initiatives within Tanzania. Provide technical assistance to executing partners of GEF projects in adaptive management and problem-solving efforts.

- Develop and strengthen comprehension of GEF processes among government stakeholders, partners, and the WWF Tanzania team. Deliver specialized instruction and support focused on project design and execution methodologies to ensure optimal outcomes. 7) Contribution to WWF GEF Agency

- Share lessons learned from Tanzania portfolio MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education A Master’s degree and Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, economics, public policy, or a closely related discipline are required. Experience
6–8 years of relevant experience Proven expertise in project design and management is essential for this role, with a demonstrated track record of successfully leading and overseeing complex initiatives from conception to completion. Professional experience collaborating with government entities in Tanzania is required. Experience with multilateral funds, such as the Global Environment Facility (GEF), or comparable initiatives is required. Skills and knowledge
