Professional Tax Accounting Specialist
Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CUBA) extends an engaging opportunity for a Tax Accountant to contribute to the Finance team. This pivotal position will be accountable to the Tax Manager. CUBA holds the distinction of being the eighth-largest Coca-Cola authorized bottler globally by revenue and the top operator on the African continent. The company commands a dominant share, accounting for more than 40% of all Coca-Cola ready-to-drink beverage sales in Africa by volume. With a workforce exceeding 14,000 employees across the region, the CUBA group serves over 800,000 customers, offering a diverse portfolio of both international and local brands. The company’s operations span 14 countries, including South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, as well as the Comoros and Mayotte islands.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Key Purpose: The Tax Accountant will collaborate closely with the Tax Manager to ensure the company adheres to all relevant tax regulations and statutory obligations in Tanzania. This position will involve the preparation of tax computations, filings, reconciliations, payments, and supporting documentation, as well as assisting the Tax Manager with tax planning initiatives, audit coordination, risk mitigation strategies, and interactions with the Tanzania Revenue Authority.
Key deliverables and responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to: Prepare and file precise, up-to-date monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns, encompassing VAT, withholding tax, corporate income tax, and any other relevant statutory obligations in a timely manner. Develop and administer tax payment schedules, verifying that all payments are executed in accordance with statutory deadlines to ensure compliance. Ensure meticulous tracking of all tax compliance deadlines by maintaining a comprehensive calendar and proactively coordinating with pertinent teams to secure timely submission of required documentation. Stay informed about developments in Tanzanian tax laws, regulatory directives from tax authorities, and pertinent judicial rulings, ensuring critical updates are promptly communicated to the Tax Manager. Maintain comprehensive tax records, including acknowledgements of returns, payment receipts, and supporting schedules in their entirety. Compile monthly reconciliations for VAT, withholding tax, corporate income tax, and other statutory obligations. Examine tax-related general ledger accounts to identify variances or unusual balances, conducting thorough investigations as necessary. Aid in compiling both current and deferred tax computations for monthly management reports and annual financial statements. Develop and compile tax schedules, perform reconciliations, and prepare supporting documentation for both internal and external audit requirements. Reconcile company tax records with statements and documentation from the Tanzania Revenue Authority, facilitating the resolution of any discrepancies. Provide support to the Tax Manager in addressing tax audits, inspections, assessments, objections, and queries issued by the Tanzania Revenue Authority. Compile, verify, and systematically arrange all supporting documentation necessary for tax audits and compliance reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness. Prepare written responses to standard tax inquiries for submission to the Tax Manager for approval. Maintain a comprehensive record of tax audits, assessments, objections, refunds, and any unresolved tax matters. Engage with internal teams to gather necessary information for tax authority correspondence and audit responses. Offer expert tax guidance to finance, procurement, payroll, sales, and operational teams, ensuring alignment with the policies and directives of the Tax Manager. Examine invoices, supplier payments, and customer transactions to verify the accurate application of VAT and withholding tax regulations. Evaluate and recommend enhancements to tax processes, documentation, and internal controls to drive operational efficiency and compliance. Facilitate tax training initiatives and awareness programs for internal teams as needed. Maintain accurate and up-to-date tax documentation to facilitate seamless audits and management evaluations.
Skills, Experience & Education
Qualifications and Experience: Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Taxation. Experience: A minimum of two to three years of professional experience in tax accounting, finance, audit, or a closely related field is required. Demonstrated proficiency in Tanzanian tax regulations, encompassing VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, corporate income tax, and statutory levies, is required. Demonstrated expertise in compiling tax returns, performing reconciliations, and preparing supporting schedules. Familiarity with tax audits, interactions with tax authorities, or collaboration with external tax advisors is beneficial. Proficiency in ERP platforms, including Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or comparable systems, represents a valuable asset for this role. Proficient in Microsoft Excel with a demonstrated ability to analyze financial data effectively.
Skills: A comprehensive working knowledge of Value-Added Tax (VAT), Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) taxation, withholding tax regulations, corporate income tax requirements, Social Development Levy (SDL), customs-related duties—where relevant—and other statutory compliance obligations is essential. Proven capability to compile, examine, and file tax returns with precision and adherence to regulatory deadlines. Proficient in leveraging Microsoft Excel’s advanced features, such as pivot tables, lookup functions, reconciliations, data cleaning, and reporting, to deliver accurate and efficient data analysis. Requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure the precise review of invoices, contracts, tax computations, payment schedules, and statutory returns. Proficient in developing comprehensive tax schedules, reconciliations, management reports, tax-risk summaries, and professional correspondence with clarity and precision. Establishes and maintains effective collaborative partnerships with finance and operations teams to drive shared objectives. Clear written and verbal communication skills. Maintains the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct when managing confidential financial and tax-related data. Must remain current with updates to Tanzanian tax legislation, regulatory amendments, and procedural guidance issued by the tax authorities.
