About the Role The External Relations and Advocacy Advisor will play a key role in advancing MSI’s External Relations and Advocacy strategy within the Chief Executive Office, collaborating closely with fundraising and communications teams. This position will drive MSI’s advocacy efforts, thought leadership initiatives, fundraising activities, partner engagement, communications, and events to ensure the organization effectively shapes global policy and funding decisions. Additionally, the role will provide governments, donors, and sector stakeholders with timely political and situational analysis, evidence, and data, positioning MSI as a generous and strategic partner. This position will play a key role in shaping and executing MSI’s external engagement strategy across critical industry forums, enhancing the organization’s profile, credibility, and impact in both international and regional settings. Additionally, it will focus on cultivating and maintaining robust partnerships with key sector leaders and donor organizations. Approximately 60% of the responsibilities will center on these strategic external relations activities. This position requires a significant operational focus, accounting for roughly 40% of the role, to ensure the team’s workflow operates seamlessly. Key duties will involve overseeing reporting procedures, developing and administering budgets, initiating and monitoring purchase orders, arranging travel and logistics, facilitating event coordination, and collaborating across various internal departments, including finance, operations, donor compliance, and IT.

To qualify for this position, the following competencies are essential: Proficient in both verbal and written communication, with a strong command of the English language. Organizes and manages events on a large scale with proficiency. Collaborate effectively with a global team while managing a demanding and varied workload efficiently to consistently meet tight deadlines across different time zones. The role demands strong analytical and research capabilities, coupled with the capacity to distill intricate documents into clear, concise summaries. Demonstrated proficiency in producing rigorous policy analysis and distilling intricate data into accessible, actionable insights tailored to varied stakeholders. Exceptional aptitude for conveying complex concepts through both written documentation and oral presentations. Capable of effectively prioritizing tasks and thriving in fast-paced, high-pressure environments as necessary. Results-oriented professional who demonstrates strong collaboration skills and a proactive approach, consistently taking initiative to drive projects forward. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, PowerPoint, and Canva is required. Candidates possessing a comprehensive understanding of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) will be strongly preferred. Fluency in French, desirable.

For this position, the ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications: Experienced in collaborating with and supporting cross-functional teams to manage competing priorities effectively. Analyzed and synthesized complex documents proficiently in previous roles. Accumulated expertise in serving as an external representative for an organization is required. With a proven track record in establishing and sustaining robust support frameworks within an office setting, you bring valuable expertise to ensure seamless operational continuity. Demonstrated expertise in administrative operations, particularly in budget management, procurement of purchase orders, and coordination of logistics for external events.

Location: London, UK (with an expectation of on-site presence for a minimum of two days each week) or at any location within a country where MSI implements its programs.

Full-time: The position entails a full-time schedule, consisting of 35 hours per week, structured from Monday through Friday.

Contract type: Permanent.

Salary The salary range for UK-based candidates is £34,200 to £42,750, while for candidates from other countries, the compensation will be adjusted according to local salary bands. Salary band: BG 7. Closing date for submissions is 30 July at midnight (BST). Interviews could potentially be scheduled prior to this date for candidates who are deemed exceptional. For internal candidates from an MSI country program, this position will align with the established national salary framework. All applicable local terms and conditions will remain in effect.
