ESG & MEL Specialist
To facilitate the execution of an EU-funded initiative aimed at enhancing manufacturing and engineering capabilities, this role involves driving industrial modernization, overseeing machinery deployment, fostering workforce upskilling, and promoting employment opportunities. This role presents an exceptional chance to spearhead sustainability compliance and performance evaluation within a thriving engineering and manufacturing organization.
About the Role
The ESG & MEL Specialist will oversee adherence to EU environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards and reporting obligations within our workshop operations and project activities. Additionally, the role involves monitoring and evaluating measurable production and development outcomes to ensure alignment with established benchmarks. This position serves as a critical link between industrial operations, regulatory compliance, sustainability initiatives, and donor reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure adherence to environmental regulations by overseeing waste management, emissions control, energy consumption, and proper handling of chemicals. Ensure adherence to workshop safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/ragout (LOT) procedures, and machine guarding measures. Monitor progress towards achieving gender and youth employment objectives. Maintain and update the EU Log frame indicator tracking systems to ensure accurate and timely monitoring of progress and results. Compose quarterly and yearly reports detailing donor contributions and their impact. Provide assistance to European Union (EU) audit and Results-Oriented Monitoring (ROM) missions. Oversee the development, monitoring, and maintenance of risk registers and sustainability plans to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and compliance standards. Verify that the production outputs are accurately aligned with the machinery funded by the European Union.
What We’re Looking For
A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Management, Project Management, or a closely related field is required. A minimum of two to six years of professional experience in manufacturing, engineering, ESG compliance, or maintenance and engineering (M&E) is required. Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of industrial safety protocols and environmental regulations. Professionals with demonstrated expertise in Logical Framework Approach (Log frame) and Results-Based Management (RBM) methodologies are encouraged to apply. Proficient in Excel and data reporting, with a demonstrated ability to analyze complex datasets and generate insightful reports. Committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct and precision, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and thoroughness in all responsibilities. A proven track record in managing or contributing to EU-funded initiatives is highly desirable.
