ESG & MEL Specialist
This role will provide assistance in executing an EU-funded initiative dedicated to advancing manufacturing and engineering capabilities, encompassing industrial modernization, equipment installation, workforce skill enhancement, and employment generation. This role offers a distinctive chance to spearhead sustainability compliance and performance assessment within an expanding engineering and manufacturing setting.
About the Role
The ESG & MEL Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that workshop operations and project activities adhere to EU environmental, social, and governance standards, as well as fulfill all relevant reporting obligations. Additionally, the role will involve monitoring and evaluating measurable production and development outcomes to assess performance and progress. This position integrates industrial operations, regulatory compliance, sustainability initiatives, and donor reporting functions.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure adherence to environmental regulations pertaining to waste management, emissions control, energy consumption, and chemical handling procedures. Ensure adherence to workshop safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout (LOT) procedures, and machine guarding measures. Monitor progress on gender and youth employment objectives. Maintain and update the EU Log frame indicator tracking systems to ensure accuracy and compliance with established protocols. Compose quarterly and annual narrative reports detailing donor activities and contributions. Provide support for EU audit and Results-Oriented Monitoring (ROM) missions. Maintain comprehensive documentation of risk registers and sustainability initiatives to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of organizational risks and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts. Verify that the outputs of production processes connected to machinery funded by the European Union align with specified requirements and standards.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, industrial management, project management, or a related discipline is required. With a proven track record spanning 2 to 6 years in manufacturing, engineering, ESG compliance, or mechanical and electrical (M&E) disciplines, the ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise to the role. Possesses a solid grasp of industrial safety and environmental regulations and standards. Proven expertise in Logical Framework Approach (Log frame) and Results-Based Management (RBM) methodologies is essential. Proficient expertise in Microsoft Excel and the ability to generate comprehensive data reports are essential requirements for this position. Demonstrates unwavering integrity and meticulous attention to detail in all professional undertakings. Proficiency in the execution of projects funded by the European Union is highly beneficial.
