ESG & MEL Specialist – To facilitate the successful execution of an EU-funded initiative in manufacturing and engineering, concentrating on industrial modernization, machinery deployment, workforce upskilling, and employment generation. This role presents an exceptional chance to spearhead sustainability compliance initiatives and evaluate performance outcomes within a rapidly expanding engineering and manufacturing setting.
About the Role
The ESG & MEL Specialist will oversee adherence to EU environmental, social, and governance standards in workshop operations and project activities, ensuring full compliance with relevant reporting requirements. Additionally, the role involves systematically monitoring and assessing measurable production and development outcomes to evaluate performance and progress. This position serves as a nexus between industrial operations, regulatory compliance, sustainability initiatives, and donor reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor adherence to environmental regulations pertaining to waste management, emissions control, energy consumption, and chemical handling protocols. Safeguard workshop safety protocols by strictly adhering to all compliance measures, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Lockout/Tagout (LOT) procedures, and machine guarding standards. Monitor and evaluate progress toward established gender and youth employment objectives. Oversee the ongoing management and monitoring of indicators within the EU Log frame tracking systems to ensure accurate and timely data collection, reporting, and compliance with established frameworks. Draft comprehensive quarterly and annual donor narrative reports to clearly communicate the impact of contributions to stakeholders. Assist in the execution of European Union (EU) audit and Results-Oriented Monitoring (ROM) missions. Develop and oversee risk registers and sustainability plans to ensure comprehensive documentation and strategic alignment. Verify that production outputs align with the specifications of machinery funded by the European Union.
What We’re Looking For
Earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Management, Project Management, or a closely related discipline. A minimum of two to six years of professional experience in manufacturing, engineering, ESG compliance, or M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) is required. Possesses a comprehensive knowledge of industrial safety protocols and environmental regulations. Proficiency in Logical Framework Approach (Log frame) and Results-Based Management (RBM) methodologies is required. Proficient in Excel and data reporting is a must. Maintaining a steadfast commitment to ethical standards and meticulous attention to detail is essential. Having prior involvement in projects funded by the European Union is highly beneficial.
