About the Role
The External Relations and Advocacy Advisor will assist in executing MSI’s External Relations and Advocacy strategy within the Chief Executive Office, collaborating closely with fundraising and communications teams. This position plays a key role in advancing MSI’s advocacy efforts, thought leadership, fundraising initiatives, partner engagement, communications, and events, ensuring the organization effectively shapes global policy and funding decisions. The role involves sharing political and situational analysis, evidence, and data as a collaborative and strategic partner to governments, donors, and the broader sector. This position will play a key role in shaping and managing MSI’s external presence across critical industry platforms, enhancing its visibility, credibility, and impact in international and regional forums while fostering robust partnerships with key sector stakeholders and donors. This responsibility will comprise roughly 60% of the role. This position also entails significant operational responsibilities, comprising roughly 40% of the role, aimed at ensuring the team’s workflow remains seamless. Duties will involve overseeing reporting procedures, developing and maintaining budgets, initiating and monitoring purchase orders, arranging travel and logistics, assisting with event coordination, and collaborating across various internal departments such as finance, operations, donor compliance, and IT.

For this position, the following qualifications are required:
Demonstrates exceptional proficiency in both verbal and written English communication. Proven capability to plan and execute events on a large scale with precision and efficiency is required. Collaborating effectively with a global team is essential, as is the capacity to juggle a demanding and varied workload while consistently meeting stringent deadlines across multiple time zones. Possesses strong analytical and research capabilities, adept at distilling intricate documents into clear, concise summaries. Capable of delivering thorough and insightful policy analysis while simplifying intricate details into practical, actionable recommendations tailored to varied stakeholders. Proficient in articulating ideas clearly and effectively through both written documentation and verbal presentations. Demonstrated capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and perform effectively in high-pressure situations as required. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, exhibiting strong self-motivation and proactive problem-solving skills. Possesses an extensive mastery of Microsoft Office suite applications, along with specialized proficiency in PowerPoint and Canva. A strong understanding of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) is highly advantageous. Fluency in French, desirable.
For this position, the ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications and experience:
Experienced in successfully collaborating with and supporting diverse teams while managing competing priorities. Analytical experience involving the evaluation and integration of intricate documentation is required. Experienced in serving as an external representative for an organization. Experienced in establishing and sustaining support frameworks within professional office settings. Seasoned professional with a proven track record in executing administrative responsibilities, such as overseeing budgets, processing purchase orders, and coordinating logistics for external events.
Formal education/qualification
While a formal educational credential is not mandatory, equivalent competence gained through relevant professional experience is fully acceptable for this position. Please refer to the attached job description for detailed information regarding the position.
Location: London, UK-based role, requiring a minimum of two days per week on-site, or an equivalent position within any of MSI’s country programs worldwide.
Full-time: The position requires a commitment of 35 hours per week, structured from Monday through Friday.
Contract type: Permanent.
Salary: The remuneration for UK-based candidates ranges from £34,200 to £42,750, while for candidates in other countries, the salary will be structured according to the prevailing national pay scales. Salary band: BG 7.
