The Emergency Physician plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional, evidence-based emergency and acute care to patients across all levels of medical urgency. This position integrates hands-on clinical practice with contributions to medical education, clinical supervision, and departmental initiatives in quality improvement and research. Within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, the physician ensures adherence to patient safety protocols, equitable care standards, and academic excellence while working across hospital departments.

Key responsibilities include assessing, diagnosing, and managing undifferentiated emergency cases such as resuscitation scenarios, trauma cases, pediatric emergencies, and mental health crises. The role also involves performing and supervising critical procedures (e.g., airway management, intubation, central/arterial line placement, chest drain insertion, cardioversion, lumbar puncture) while optimizing patient flow through effective triage and timely disposition decisions. Collaboration with specialists across surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, and allied health teams is essential to achieve optimal patient outcomes, supported by accurate and timely medical documentation.

In education and academic contributions, the physician supervises medical students and interns, mentors junior staff, and delivers structured teaching sessions, including didactic lectures, case-based discussions, simulation training, and bedside instruction. Active participation in curriculum development, competency-based assessments, and scholarly activities—such as clinical research, quality improvement projects, case series, or guideline formulation—is expected.

A strong commitment to quality, safety, and governance is required, including championing patient safety culture, participating in clinical audits and adverse event reviews, and ensuring compliance with national protocols, accreditation standards, and infection prevention guidelines. The physician also supports departmental performance monitoring, accreditation processes, and emergency preparedness initiatives, including mass casualty drills, while identifying and escalating clinical risks through proper governance channels.

Leadership and collaboration are central to this role, as the physician serves as a professional role model, contributes to strategic planning and policy development, and fosters relationships with pre-hospital services, referral hospitals, and community health partners.

Candidates must hold a postgraduate specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine (e.g., Fellowship, Board Certification, or equivalent national specialist registration) and possess a minimum of three years of post-specialist experience in a high-volume emergency department. Demonstrated expertise in clinical supervision, teaching of medical trainees, and advanced life support certification (e.g., ACLS/ALS) is required; ATLAS or equivalent trauma certification is preferred.
