Dedicated HR Volunteer for AVERT Team

Apostolic Voice Education Trust (AVERT), a Christian faith-based nonprofit, is dedicated to fostering transformation across African communities through initiatives in education, mental health support, economic empowerment, and media. With the expansion of our programs—including Apostolic Voice University, the Community Mental Health and First Aid initiative, the Leadership Development and Mentorship Program, and Ubuntu Vision Studios—we seek a committed team of volunteers to assist in managing our human resources. This involves responsibilities such as recruiting, onboarding, and maintaining accurate records and policy compliance. We are opening 5 volunteer positions on our new Volunteer HR Team.

Before submitting your application, please review the following essential details to ensure you meet all qualifications and understand the role’s requirements and responsibilities. We kindly remind applicants that this opportunity is an unremunerated volunteer role. These positions are unpaid and offered on a volunteer basis, providing an opportunity to serve, gain valuable experience, and support a meaningful cause. Applicants should only apply if they are both able and willing to contribute without financial compensation.

The five available roles and the corresponding duties for each position are outlined below.

HR Team Lead / Coordinator (Volunteer) — Seeking one dedicated individual to oversee and coordinate the HR team on a voluntary basis. This individual will oversee the small HR volunteer team, providing leadership and direction. Duties include: Conduct biweekly or weekly brief check-in meetings with the HR team to ensure alignment and progress updates. The position requires monitoring all vacant volunteer and staff roles throughout AVERT that remain unfilled. Maintain a concise written record (tracker/list) of recruitment progress and provide a brief monthly update. Mediate minor team conflicts and address any escalating issues by promptly escalating them to AVERT leadership for resolution.

Professionally Voluntary HR Officer — Responsible for Recruitment & Onboarding — Two positions available. This individual is responsible for recruiting and onboarding new volunteers and staff members. On a daily basis, your duties will include: Craft and disseminate job and volunteer advertisements across various online channels. Review submitted applications and identify candidates who meet the necessary qualifications. Conduct brief dialogues—whether via telephone or digital correspondence—with prospective candidates to gain deeper insights into their backgrounds and qualifications. Upon acceptance, extend a warm welcome to new volunteers by sending them an introductory message, outlining the subsequent steps, and facilitating their smooth integration into their designated roles. Maintain a clear and structured log of applicants, documenting their submission status and acceptance details.

Two Volunteer HR Officers — Specializing in Policy, Compliance, and Records Management — This role ensures strict adherence to AVERT’s documentation and policy frameworks. Daily responsibilities include: Monitor and maintain records of Board members, staff, and volunteers who have reviewed and formally endorsed AVERT’s official policies. Ensure timely and courteous follow-ups with individuals who have yet to complete the signing process. Maintain meticulous organization and strict confidentiality of all personal files and records, ensuring they are never disclosed to any parties external to AVERT. Please notify the team promptly if any documentation or records are incomplete or unavailable.

WHO CAN APPLY

Individuals who embrace AVERT’s Christian principles and dedication to community transformation are encouraged to apply. Prospective candidates should align with our mission of fostering positive change through faith-based initiatives. A formal degree is not mandatory; instead, the emphasis lies on strong organizational skills, dependability, and effective communication abilities. While prior exposure to HR, recruitment, administrative support, or personnel coordination can be beneficial, it is not mandatory. We provide comprehensive training and ongoing support to facilitate your success in this role. It requires a full-time commitment, totaling 40 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate occasional extended hours as project deadlines necessitate. Committed time allocation ranges from five to eight hours weekly. Adaptable — this role accommodates your existing schedule, allowing seamless integration with academic pursuits, professional obligations, or other personal commitments.

WHERE YOU WILL WORK FROM

The position is available for remote work, enabling performance from any location. Periodically, the team might convene face-to-face in Lusaka, Zambia; however, attendance is discretionary and not obligatory.

  • Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
