Apostolic Voice Education Trust (AVERT), a Christian faith-based nonprofit, is dedicated to transforming communities throughout Africa through education, mental health support, economic empowerment, and media initiatives. With the expansion of our programs—including Apostolic Voice University, the Community Mental Health and First Aid program, the Leadership Development and Mentorship Program, and Ubuntu Vision Studios—we are seeking a committed team of volunteers to assist in managing our workforce. This includes recruiting qualified individuals, providing a welcoming onboarding experience, and maintaining accurate records and organizational policies. We are opening 5 volunteer positions on our new Volunteer HR Team.

These positions are unpaid and offered on a volunteer basis, providing an opportunity to contribute to a significant cause while acquiring valuable experience. Five distinct roles are available, each with clearly defined responsibilities and expectations. These positions encompass a range of duties tailored to specific operational needs, ensuring targeted contributions to the organization’s objectives. The roles are structured to align with key functions, allowing individuals to leverage their expertise in specialized areas. Each position demands a unique skill set, with tailored requirements to ensure candidates possess the necessary qualifications for success.

Volunteer HR Team Lead/Coordinator — One position available for a dedicated individual to oversee HR operations. This individual oversees the small HR volunteer team. Daily responsibilities include: Schedule regular brief check-ins with the HR team, occurring on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining an accurate inventory of all open volunteer and staff positions across AVERT that remain unfilled. Maintain a concise written log (tracker/list) to document recruitment progress, and distribute a brief monthly update. Mediate minor conflicts or issues among team members, ensuring efficient resolution, while escalating significant concerns to AVERT leadership for further action.

Volunteer HR Officer – Recruitment & Onboarding (2 Positions) We are seeking two dedicated individuals to support our recruitment and onboarding processes as Volunteer HR Officers. In this role, you will play a key part in sourcing talent, conducting interviews, and facilitating smooth transitions for new hires. Your contributions will help strengthen our team’s efficiency and ensure a positive experience for new employees. Ideal candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace. If you are passionate about HR and eager to make a meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply. This individual plays a key role in recruiting, onboarding, and integrating new volunteers and staff members into the organization. Daily responsibilities include: Compose and disseminate job and volunteer postings across a variety of online and offline channels to attract qualified candidates and engaged participants. Review applications to identify and select qualified candidates for further consideration. Conduct brief telephone or written exchanges with candidates to gather additional insights into their qualifications and suitability. Upon acceptance, onboard new volunteers by delivering a warm welcome message, outlining subsequent steps, and facilitating their seamless integration into their responsibilities. Maintain a clear and structured log of applicants, including their submission status and acceptance details.

Volunteer Human Resources Officer (Policy, Compliance & Records) – Two Positions Available This individual is responsible for ensuring strict adherence to AVERT’s documentation and policy protocols. Daily duties include: Maintain a comprehensive record of the individuals—including Board members, staff, and volunteers—who have reviewed and signed AVERT’s official policies. Gently reach out to individuals who have yet to complete the signing process to ensure timely completion. Maintain personal files and records in a structured, secure, and confidential manner, ensuring they are never disclosed to external parties beyond AVERT. Please notify the team if any documentation or records are incomplete or unavailable.

WHO CAN APPLY Individuals who embrace AVERT’s Christian principles and dedication to community transformation are encouraged to apply. A degree is not mandatory for this role; instead, the key qualifications revolve around strong organizational skills, dependability, and confidence in interpersonal communication. While prior experience in human resources, recruitment, administrative support, or personnel coordination can be advantageous, it is not mandatory—comprehensive training and guidance will be provided to ensure your success in the role.

HOW MUCH TIME IS REQUIRED Approximately five to eight hours per week are required for this position. Accommodating of personal schedules, this opportunity allows you to balance work alongside academic pursuits, professional obligations, or other commitments. The location for this role is flexible, with the option to work remotely or from one of our designated office sites. This position is fully remote, allowing for work from any location. Occasionally, in-person meetings may be held in Lusaka, Zambia; however, attendance is voluntary and not mandatory.
