The Key Purpose This position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing packaging plant equipment and associated systems to ensure peak operational availability, consistent product quality, and efficient production at minimal cost, all while complying with corporate standards, safety protocols, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Roles and Responsibilities: Plant Maintenance and Equipment Reliability Responsible for the upkeep, restoration, and performance enhancement of plant machinery and related systems to sustain optimal operational efficiency and dependability.

• Identify and employ plant equipment, spare parts, technical documentation, and pertinent maintenance systems to support operational and maintenance activities. Execute scheduled preventive maintenance, as well as address and resolve corrective maintenance needs.
• Conduct thorough examinations of equipment to detect faults, defects, or impending failures by performing routine inspections, conducting plant walkthroughs, and adhering to established maintenance schedules. Maintain machines and equipment in optimal working condition at all times to prevent operational disruptions and ensure efficiency. Proactively diagnose and address mechanical and operational challenges to reduce production interruptions and ensure seamless system performance. Packaging Operations Ensure packaging machines are operated safely and in full compliance with established operating procedures and stringent safety standards. Proficiently initiate, oversee, regulate, and deactivate packaging machinery to ensure seamless operations. Monitor production operations to verify that products adhere to established quality standards and meet predetermined production objectives. To ensure optimal machine performance, thereby meeting productivity and cost-efficiency objectives, this role requires consistent monitoring and maintenance of equipment. Perform regular inspections and necessary modifications on machinery to uphold consistent and high-quality output. Continuous Improvement Actively engage in ongoing enhancement programs aimed at optimizing plant operations, process equipment functionality, and overall system efficiency. Identify avenues to enhance production workflows, minimize material waste, and maximize the operational efficiency of machinery. Apply VIVO (Voyager Plant Optimization) methodologies to drive operational excellence and enhance plant performance through structured process improvements and best practices. Health, Safety, and Quality Ensure a secure, health-conscious, and environmentally responsible workplace is consistently upheld. Ensure full compliance with all health, safety, food safety, quality, and company-established standards at all times. Promptly report any unsafe conditions, incidents, or potential risks to ensure timely intervention and prevent further complications.
• Maintain adherence to established workplace safety protocols and operational guidelines to uphold a secure and efficient work environment. Documentation and Housekeeping Accurately and punctually finalize all maintenance, operational, and production documentation to meet required standards and deadlines. Accurately document machine performance metrics, maintenance actions, and production data in accordance with established protocols. Accountability and reliability. Minimum Requirements: Candidates must possess a Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (Matrix) or equivalent qualification as a fundamental requirement. A degree or certification in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Maintenance, Engineering, or a closely related discipline is highly desirable. Demonstrated expertise in the operation of packaging machinery and production equipment within an industrial manufacturing setting is required.

• Skilled in conducting routine maintenance and resolving common technical issues with plant machinery. Proficiency in preventative maintenance systems and continuous improvement methodologies is beneficial for candidates.
• Knowledge of manufacturing and packaging processes.
• Familiarity with occupational health and safety regulations and standards is essential. Proficiency in utilizing maintenance tools, operating equipment effectively, and maintaining accurate documentation systems is required.
• Familiarity with 5S methodologies and continuous improvement frameworks is required. Interpreting technical documentation and operational procedures with precision is essential.
