HEAD OF SCHOOL . JOB PURPOSE The Head of School will oversee the instructional leadership, staff management, and scholar development initiatives, while also providing administrative oversight and shaping the institution’s long-term strategic vision. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality education, implementing effective instructional strategies, and demonstrating strong educational leadership. This role involves managing both human and capital resources efficiently, cultivating a safe and inclusive learning environment, and fostering productive relationships with students, parents, school staff, regulators, and other key stakeholders. RESPONSIBILITIES Offer strategic leadership and guidance to drive the accomplishment of the School’s mission, vision, and objectives. Provide comprehensive leadership and direction for the administrative, operational, and daily management functions of both the Primary and Secondary School divisions. Demonstrate exceptional instructional leadership to enhance teaching, learning, assessment, and ultimately, learner achievement. Oversee and guide faculty members in their instructional practices, while cultivating an environment that emphasizes professionalism, responsibility, and ongoing growth. Implement the curriculum, school policies, safeguarding protocols, and all relevant Ministry of Education and Teaching Council of Zambia standards with precision and effectiveness. Efficiently and responsibly oversee the School’s financial, physical, and human resources to facilitate sustainable institutional growth. To foster a secure, inclusive, and disciplined setting that prioritizes learner welfare while encouraging academic excellence and character growth. Developing and nurturing strong, collaborative relationships with parents, guardians, staff, the Board of Directors, regulatory authorities, and other key stakeholders is essential. Develop and execute strategic plans, annual operational frameworks, budgets, and performance reports while spearheading ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing school performance. Serving as the primary ambassador for the institution, this role entails upholding the School’s image and enhancing its standing in the education sector and broader community through official engagements. Perform all responsibilities associated with the Head of School position with unwavering dedication, meticulous attention to detail, and professional competence, while also executing any other lawful duties and responsibilities that the Employer may reasonably assign from time to time. QUALIFICATIONS Candidates are expected to meet the following essential criteria: Obtained a Grade 12 School Certificate with at least five (5) credits or higher, with English being one of the included subjects. Degree in Secondary Education, specializing in Key Learning and Teaching Areas (subjects) as outlined by the Zambian Curriculum. A master’s degree in Educational Management, Educational Leadership, Education Administration, or a closely related discipline is required. A PhD in a relevant discipline would be advantageous. A current, valid registration certificate and practicing license issued by the Teaching Council of Zambia are required.
EXPERIENCE
Requirements include a minimum of eight (8) years in teaching, with at least five (5) of those years in a senior leadership role, such as Deputy Headteacher, Headteacher, Head of Department, or an equivalent position. Proven track record in overseeing both academic and administrative operations within a distinguished Primary and/or Secondary School setting. Achieved notable results in areas such as strategic planning, curriculum execution, school enhancement initiatives, staff supervision, and stakeholder relations. SKILLS AND COMPETENCES Proficiency in educational technology, encompassing academic, management, and courseware domains, is required. Excellent communication skills Excellent leadership skills Sound interpersonal skills Demonstrated proficiency in organizing tasks efficiently and managing time effectively is required. Adaptability and resilience Proficient analytical and critical thinking abilities are essential for this role. Maintaining the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and accountability is essential.
