The Central Medical Stores Trust (CMST) oversees the procurement, storage, sales, and distribution of high-quality, affordable, and approved medicines and medical supplies to all public health facilities across Malawi. To strengthen operations across its branches in Mzuzu, Lilongwe, and Blantyre, CMST invites applications from dynamic and forward-thinking professionals for the following role: Pharmacist-in-Charge Job Title: Pharmacist-in-Charge Job Grade: MS4 Location: Lilongwe Reporting To: Branch Manager (MS3) Supervisory Role: Pharmacist (MS5) Number of Positions: One (1) Purpose This position provides strategic leadership for pharmaceutical warehouse operations, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and operational excellence in inbound and outbound logistics. Key Responsibilities – Overseeing warehouse operations to ensure full compliance with the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority Act, relevant regulations, and Good Warehousing and Distribution Practices. – Directing and monitoring warehouse workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity. – Maintaining real-time accuracy of inventory transactions within the ERP system. – Safeguarding and organizing documentation for receipts, customer orders, and shipments. – Managing third-party logistics providers for cost-effective last-mile distribution. – Collaborating with the Finance Department to ensure precise customer billing. – Providing strategic guidance to management on stock availability and movement trends. – Ensuring warehouse infrastructure, equipment, and handling procedures are well-maintained, optimized, safe, and efficient. – Developing, implementing, and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for warehouse operations. – Identifying staff training needs and implementing targeted capacity-building initiatives. – Preparing annual work plans and budgets while overseeing the performance of subordinate staff. Qualifications and Experience – A Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution. – Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent qualification. – Valid registration with the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA). – A postgraduate qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field is advantageous. – Minimum of five years of progressive experience in a high-volume pharmaceutical warehouse setting.
