About the role The Head of People, as a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), spearheads the development and execution of workforce strategies that align with and advance the country program’s strategic objectives and targets. Leveraging a comprehensive grasp of the country program’s strategy and operational context, this role provides leadership and direction to the team while overseeing the implementation of human resources policies, initiatives, and key priorities. In this role, you will: Spearhead the development and execution of the People Strategy, ensuring alignment with Water Aid Tanzania’s strategic goals and fostering organizational expansion. Provide strategic guidance and leadership in people management to the Country Director and Senior Management Team, focusing on workforce planning, talent management, and organizational effectiveness. Responsibilities include managing all human resources functions, such as recruitment, performance evaluations, training and development initiatives, employee relations, compensation and benefits, engagement strategies, and succession planning efforts. With a focus on fostering organizational strength and leadership excellence, this role will drive capacity development, implement effective change management strategies, and cultivate a high-performance culture. Ensure adherence to safeguarding protocols, labor regulations, organizational policies, safety guidelines, and risk management frameworks while cultivating an environment that is both inclusive and supportive. Oversee the allocation of the People Department’s financial resources, administer personnel systems, and generate comprehensive reports to facilitate informed decision-making and operational efficiency. Requirements To be successful, you will need: A master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Leadership & Capability Development, or a closely related discipline is required, alongside an accredited professional HR qualification. Senior-level HR professionals with substantial experience, particularly in leading People/HR functions, are sought after, with a preference for those who have operated within international development or NGO settings. Experienced in talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, performance management, organizational development, learning and development, and compliance with employment legislation. Demonstrated expertise in collaborating with senior executives and shaping high-level strategic choices through persuasive engagement. Seasoned professionals with a proven track record in workforce planning, change management, organizational design, and capacity building are encouraged to apply.
Exceptional analytical capabilities are required, enabling the interpretation of people-related data to derive practical and valuable insights. Demonstrates exceptional ability to communicate clearly, cultivate strong professional relationships, and effectively manage interactions with stakeholders. Demonstrates strong leadership skills, adept at coaching, influencing, and fostering the growth of team members.
