This role requires collaboration with international partners, governments, and stakeholders to strengthen health systems, promote equity, and ensure collective action against cross-border health risks. The Project: Professor Sewankambo Training Program for Global Health Security in Africa is a specialized initiative designed to enhance health security capabilities across the continent. This program focuses on developing leadership, technical expertise, and institutional capacity among professionals in Africa’s health sector. It is structured to provide comprehensive training, mentorship, and resources to strengthen health systems and promote collaborative efforts in addressing global health challenges. Program Area Leads serve as the direct supervisory authority over this position, providing guidance, performance oversight, and strategic alignment for all duties and responsibilities. Duration: 4 weeks Applications will be accepted for a period of two weeks following the advertisement’s publication date. Position Overview The Infectious Diseases Institute (ID) at Maker ere University is currently seeking applications from exceptional final-year and newly graduated postgraduate health professionals to participate in Cohort II of the Professor Sewankambo Global Health Security Training Program. The Professor Sewankambo Program represents a forward-thinking, multidisciplinary leadership and experiential learning endeavor designed to bolster Africa’s preparedness for addressing new public health challenges. By equipping participants with structured mentorship, immersive practical training, research opportunities, and direct involvement in national and regional Global Health Security initiatives, the initiative cultivates essential skills for preventing, detecting, and responding to emerging threats. Following the successful completion of Cohort I, which consists of PhD scholars conducting advanced research in Global Health Security, the program will now incorporate Graduate Fellows who will undertake rigorous placements within ID’s Global Health Security Program. Successful candidates will collaborate with diverse teams to advance Uganda’s health security goals, actively engaging in preparedness efforts, surveillance initiatives, research projects, outbreak response activities, and scientific advancements. To achieve the program’s strategic goals, this role will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of initiatives that advance key objectives. The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in program management, along with demonstrated expertise in stakeholder engagement, resource allocation, and performance evaluation.
