Save the Children, in collaboration with Vāyu Global Health and the Ministry of Health (MOH), and with financial support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Charities (LDSC), will execute a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare outcomes in underserved communities. Professional Rewrite: Enhancing the quality of care for premature and critically ill newborns across Zambia. The initiative seeks to lower facility-level neonatal mortality by enhancing access to superior respiratory care via the adoption of bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP), reinforcing referral and transfer mechanisms for critically ill newborns, and elevating the competencies of healthcare personnel across Lusaka, Central, and Southern Provinces. This project will be executed in ten public health facilities at the district level, each equipped with operational 24-hour inpatient newborn care units. The intervention will bolster the quality of care for small and sick newborns through evidence-based clinical protocols, health system strengthening, staff training, mentorship, quality enhancement initiatives, and the sustainable integration of BiPAP services into standard newborn care practices.
