Responsibilities Assisting with the deployment of the NMGML Occupational Health and Safety Management System at the North Mara Mine is a key responsibility. Assisting with the adoption of the ISO 45001:2018 standard at NMGML. Assisting the Safety Supervisor in ensuring all activities at the North Mara Mine align with the Company’s Safety and Health Standards, as well as all relevant legislative requirements. Offering prominent and senior-level Safety guidance to every department and collaborating business partners/contractors at North Mara Mine, the role ensures the secure and productive functioning of mine operations alongside related infrastructure. Assist in the ongoing upkeep of the nine components that comprise the Garrick Safety and Health Management System specifically at the North Mara Mine. Ensure all site equipment is consistently maintained and monitored through a robust, auditable system that enables immediate transparency. This includes conducting pre-start checks, adhering to scheduled maintenance plans, and documenting faults, their reporting, and subsequent rectifications. Actively lead and support the execution of Baseline/Formal Risk Assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JMA), and Functional Local Risk Assessments (FLORA) while fostering a robust risk management culture across the North Mara Mine site. Conduct routine safety inspections across all sections of the mine site, encompassing areas staffed by contractors, to verify compliance with established safety protocols and identify potential hazards.
Collaborate with relevant supervisors to conduct accident and incident investigations. Facilitate accident and incident investigations as mandated, employing company-approved methodologies to ensure thorough and compliant resolution.
Developing safety training packages. Conduct safety training sessions for the workforce and contractors at the North Mara Gold Mine. Prepare and submit a daily report summarizing the executed activities to the Safety Supervisor for review. Prepare and deliver safety statistics on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, analyzing and reporting key trends for further evaluation.

Compile a comprehensive monthly report summarizing activities and relevant statistics from the period, ensuring precision and timely completion for seamless integration into the site-wide monthly report. Conduct routine assessments to evaluate adherence to safety protocols, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment and identifying areas requiring reinforcement through safety guidance and mentorship. Collaborate with various internal teams in the Department to maintain cohesive operations and successfully accomplish established goals. Attend designated safety-related meetings for pertinent departments as directed by OHS leadership.

You will provide technical guidance and support to visitors upon request, ensuring their inquiries are addressed with precision and expertise. Perform such additional responsibilities as the OHS leadership determines necessary to support organizational health and safety objectives. Qualification requirements A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is required.
Expérience
NOSHC certificate/NEBOSH Certificate Holding a Certificate III or IV in Occupational Health and Safety is essential for this role, demonstrating your formal training and expertise in workplace safety protocols and risk management. Experience and competencies needed. With a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in mining operations, encompassing both open-pit and underground environments, the ideal candidate will bring a solid background in the field.

Demonstrates the ability to proactively drive safety initiatives while assuming full accountability for the implementation and oversight of safety programs. Experienced with Safety and Health Management Systems and well-versed in the ISO 45001:2018 standard.
Demonstrates expertise in conducting thorough accident and incident investigations and compiling detailed reports. Skilled in Process Safety Management systems, with a solid grasp of their principles and applications. Holds a valid Tanzania driver’s license and demonstrates competent driving skills.
Demonstrates proficiency in executing strategic initiatives and attaining established objectives. Demonstrates strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to effectively engage with various departments, contractors, project managers, and safety personnel. Possesses strong proficiency in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili, ensuring clear and effective communication in all professional interactions. Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office applications, specifically MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook.

Strong influencing skills. Membership in the Emergency Response Team will be considered a valuable asset. Analytical proficiency is essential, enabling the ability to process information logically and methodically with a keen focus on detail.
