Position Available: Coordinator of Food and Economic Security (INT11699) JOB PURPOSE The Food and Economic Security (FES) Coordinator spearheads Oxfam’s humanitarian initiatives focused on food security, livelihoods, resilience, and economic justice throughout the Southern Africa (SAF) Cluster. This role involves providing high-level strategic direction, specialized technical guidance, and hands-on operational leadership to ensure effective implementation of these critical programs. The position is tasked with guaranteeing that Oxfam’s food security and livelihoods initiatives are technically sound, partner-driven, gender-inclusive, and fully consistent with Oxfam’s humanitarian principles, localization objectives, and the 2026–2030 SAF Strategy. It facilitates the development, execution, and adaptive oversight of integrated programs that address urgent humanitarian requirements while fostering resilience, economic revitalization, climate resilience, and sustainable systemic transformation. As a pivotal member of Oxfam’s humanitarian and nexus framework, the FES Coordinator enhances the Cluster’s technical expertise to address escalating food, climate, and livelihood crises while integrating emergency interventions with resilience-building, social protection, and economic justice initiatives. This position plays a key role in advancing anticipatory action, elevating program quality, strengthening partners, driving regional advocacy, and fostering technical innovation. Under the supervision of the Humanitarian Action Program Manager, this position functions with substantial independence within intricate and rapidly changing humanitarian environments. It demands advanced technical proficiency, sound operational decision-making, systems-oriented thinking, and the capacity to collaborate efficiently across diverse countries, partners, and stakeholders. Through this role, Oxfam enhances its standing as a trusted regional leader, enabling principled, locally driven, and strategically cohesive humanitarian interventions throughout Southern Africa. The position demands extensive technical and operational proficiency, strong analytical skills, and the capacity to function independently within intricate and fast-paced emergency environments. Essential Qualifications A master’s degree in Food Security, Agriculture, Humanitarian Studies, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a closely related discipline is required. With a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in humanitarian response, food security initiatives, livelihoods enhancement, cash-based programming, and resilience-building projects, the ideal candidate will possess a strong background in these critical areas. Demonstrated expertise in delivering programs across multiple countries, executing emergency responses, facilitating partner-led implementations, and providing technical leadership for program initiatives. Proven capability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure situations while effectively adjusting to dynamic circumstances. Demonstrated expertise in collaborating with national or regional partners to facilitate program execution, with a track record of operating within multi-country or multi-stakeholder frameworks. Technical proficiency is essential, alongside the capacity to align program design with advocacy and policy initiatives. Accomplished communication, analytical, and decision-making capabilities are essential. Demonstrates a capacity to cultivate and sustain robust, reputable connections with both internal stakeholders and external partners. Proficient in both written and spoken English, with exceptional interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated proficiency in negotiation, and a compelling ability to persuade and influence stakeholders. A demonstrated capacity for self-awareness, sustained personal energy, physical and mental stamina, and adaptability to dynamic situations. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting and to foster cooperative relationships with colleagues from other teams. Rigorous adherence to Oxfam’s safeguarding policies is essential to guarantee the safety and protection of all individuals who interact with the organization. Desirable Portuguese language capability. Southern Africa regional experience. Proficiency in anticipatory action and climate adaptation strategies is required. Proficiency in institutional donor management systems is required. Demonstrates flexibility and readiness to undertake frequent travel, both domestically and within the regional area, occasionally on brief notice.
