ESG & MEL Specialist
The position is designed to facilitate the execution of an EU-funded initiative within the manufacturing and engineering sector, concentrating on industrial modernization, equipment installation, workforce skill enhancement, and employment generation. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to oversee sustainability compliance and evaluate performance outcomes within a rapidly expanding engineering and manufacturing setting.
About the Role
The ESG & MEL Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that our workshop operations and project activities align with EU environmental, social, and governance standards, as well as associated reporting obligations. Additionally, the role involves monitoring and evaluating production and development outcomes to ensure measurable results. This position integrates industrial operations, regulatory compliance, sustainability initiatives, and donor reporting responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure adherence to environmental regulations pertaining to waste management, emissions control, energy consumption, and chemical handling procedures. Ensure adherence to all safety protocols within the workshop environment, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), adherence to lockout/ragout (LOT) procedures, and the maintenance of machine guarding systems. Monitor progress toward achieving gender and youth employment benchmarks. Maintain systems for tracking EU Log frame indicators. Compile and present quarterly and annual reports that detail donor contributions and their respective narratives. Provide assistance with European Union audit initiatives and Results-Oriented Monitoring (ROM) missions. Maintain comprehensive documentation of risk registers and sustainability plans to ensure ongoing monitoring and alignment with organizational objectives. Verify the accuracy and completeness of production outputs associated with machinery financed by European Union funding initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
Holders of a Bachelor’s degree in disciplines such as Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Management, Project Management, or closely related fields are encouraged to apply. We seek candidates with a minimum of two to six years of relevant experience in manufacturing, engineering, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) compliance, or maintenance and engineering (M&E). Demonstrates a robust knowledge of industrial safety protocols and environmental regulations. Professionals should possess practical experience in Logical Framework Approach (Log frame) and Results-Based Management (RBM) methodologies. Proficient in utilizing Excel for data analysis and generating detailed reports, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and efficiency. Maintains high standards of integrity and demonstrates meticulous attention to detail. A background in European Union-funded initiatives is highly beneficial.
