Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Control Advisor – LEP (Fixed-term)

Luciana Mining Company, a subsidiary of Barrick Mining Corporation, is seeking a highly dedicated professional to fill the role of Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Control Advisor for the Luciana Expansion Project (LEP). Reporting to the Electrical Control and Instrumentation team lead, you will oversee all aspects of design, implementation, and maintenance of control systems and instrumentation. You will direct team members in executing projects, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, industry standards, and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate with cross-functional departments to integrate electrical systems with broader operational frameworks, manage budgets, allocate resources efficiently, and evaluate project performance to drive continuous improvement. You will oversee all installations, commissioning, and testing activities to ensure full compliance with project specifications, engineering standards, safety regulations, and statutory requirements.

Your responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to, the following:

Perform daily inspections of Electrical, Control, Instrumentation, and Communications installations throughout all designated project areas. Ensure that every aspect of construction operations aligns precisely with the approved architectural drawings, technical specifications, method statements, quality control plans, and applicable industry standards. Ensure contractor workmanship and construction quality adhere to specified project requirements through diligent monitoring. Identify, document, and report any deficiencies, non-conformances, deviations, or quality concerns related to installations. Verify that all corrective actions have been properly implemented and confirmed before accepting the work. Ensure the proper installation of cables, cable terminations, glands, earthing systems, containment systems, instruments, control panels, substations, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), and all related equipment. Conduct thorough inspections of trenching operations, cable routing, cable pulling procedures, cable support systems, and adherence to cable segregation requirements. Conduct thorough inspections of instrument installations to ensure proper mounting, impulse tubing connections, cable terminations, junction box configurations, and compliance of field instrumentation with applicable standards. Observe and oversee the execution of construction tasks pertaining to high-voltage (HV), medium-voltage (MV), and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems. Ensure strict adherence to approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Control Plans (QCPs), and construction specifications. Engage in on-site assessments, including construction walk downs, punch list generation, pre-commissioning inspections, and evaluations of commissioning readiness to ensure alignment with project specifications and industry standards. Identify potential latent defects and commissioning risks prior to system energization. Review contractor quality records to ensure all necessary inspection documentation has been completed accurately and thoroughly. Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), and commissioning activities as necessary to ensure operational readiness and compliance with specifications. Maintain meticulous documentation of site inspections and generate periodic quality and progress reports. Facilitate the seamless transition of projects by verifying the thoroughness and accuracy of all turnover documentation. Foster a robust culture of quality excellence throughout all project execution teams.

To qualify for this role, applicants must fulfill the following essential criteria:

Grade 12 School Certificate. Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a comparable discipline is required; possession of a Degree in the same field is highly advantageous. With a minimum of ten years of hands-on experience in Electrical, Control, and Instrumentation (EC&I) construction, preferably within mining, industrial, processing, power generation, or large-scale infrastructure projects. Professional experience in the mining sector, particularly involving Greenfield and brownfield capital projects, is necessary. EIZ membership. Demonstrates extensive expertise in high-voltage (HV), medium-voltage (MV), and low-voltage (LV) systems, with a comprehensive understanding of substations, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), and instrumentation. Experienced in ABB & Siemens Medium Voltage Switchgear, as well as MV/LV Variable Speed Drives, with a strong background in installation, configuration, and commissioning tasks. Proficiency in Siemens PCS 7 Distributed Control System (DCS) hardware, input/output (I/O) configuration, marshalling processes, and DCS network infrastructure—including industrial Ethernet and fiber optic technologies—is required. Proficient in reading and analyzing P&IDs, single-line diagrams, loop diagrams, cable schedules, termination drawings, and technical specifications. Proficient in quality assurance systems, inspection protocols, punch list management, non-conformance resolution, electrical safety regulations, and permit-to-work procedures. Accomplished in utilizing the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with a strong command of their respective functionalities and advanced features. Manual Driver's license.
