Environmental Officer (Agent d'environnement)

Job description Mission and objectives Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, the Environmental Officer is responsible for implementing all environmental activities on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. The role will also carry out all the activities of the assistants in addition to writing regular reports.

Responsibilities

Health and safety

• Demonstrate personal commitment to safety and environmental practices and social responsibility.
• Make sure every person on the team is fit for work.
• Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
• Ensure that all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with company standards and procedures.
• Ensure that hazard management plans are followed. Environment
• Monitoring of waste management activities
• Participate in the malaria prevention and misting programme
• Participate in rehabilitation/nursery activities
• Ensure that the company complies with the environmental agreements set out in the Environmental Permit.
• Carry out awareness campaigns for all SML employees and local communities on environmental issues.
• Update the hazardous waste inventory as well as the water, oil and energy quality inventory.
• Implement waste management under the supervision of the environmental supervisor.
• Control the proper separation of waste.
• Make sure the contaminated soil is properly treated.
• Supervise the activities of the nursery.
• Collect samples in the field.
• Conduct a daily environmental visit to the site.
• Actively participate in the environmental audit.
• Supervise the activities of Environmental Technicians in the field.

Experience

Skills, knowledge and experience

Education / Qualifications

Degrees and experience required:

• BAC Diploma+2/3 in HSE, Environment, Mines or equivalent qualification
• Minimum 2/3 years of experience in similar roles in environment or HSE
• 1/2 year experience in mining industry
• Minimum level of knowledge of local Ivorian laws, legislations and environmental standards
• Experience working with Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint
