The PROPARCO Central Africa Regional Directorate (DR), based in Douala (with an antenna in DRC), covers 7 countries. Strategy of the Regional Directorate: Financial inclusion: Provision of financing to financial institutions (guarantees, lines of credit) to strengthen the financing of small and medium-sized enterprises. Financing of infrastructure projects: Renewable energies, transport, digital. Support for SMEs: Financial and technical support in the industrial, agribusiness and service sectors.
DESCRIPTION OF THE MISSION
Responsibilities
Under the hierarchical responsibility of the Regional Director PROPARCO Central Africa, the trainee will support the Financial Institutions and Infrastructure / Corporate divisions in project identification and portfolio management.
- Financial Institutions and Financial Inclusion Origination:
Education / Qualifications
Analysis of financial and legal information, assessment of the level of risks inherent in operations and the soundness of financial institutions (solvency, liquidity, profitability). Analysis of individual collateral files submitted by partner banks in the sub-region. Detailed analysis of counterparties' balance sheets, income statements and other financial information (including restatements). Market analysis and competitive positioning of counterparties. Preparation and drafting of the documents presenting the opportunities for intervention intended for internal bodies (in particular the project identification form for PROPARCO's identification committee). Monitoring of the development guarantee portfolio (G4D): Active monitoring of the quality of the portfolio of guarantees files, both operationally and administratively. Monitoring of reporting tools.
Main duties
Audit of depreciation tables for commission billing. Follow-up of calls for commissions and calls for deadlines to partner banks (with the support of AFD local agency management). Examination of restructuring applications and preparation/transmission of amendments. Management of the monitoring table for the settlement of commissions. Instruction and follow-up of advance/pay requests.
- Infrastructure and Corporate Origination: Information searches and sectoral analyses in support of project managers. Follow-up of the entries in relation (making appointments, followed by the signing of confidentiality agreements / NDA, collection of documentation). Organization and participation in meetings with prospects, drafting of reports. Analysis of project documentation (discounting/analysis of financial, sectoral, macroeconomic and legal data) and production of summary notes. Participation in the drafting of credit notes to be presented to internal bodies. Support for daily activities: Organization of communication events to bring together private sector actors in Douala. One-off research on counterparties (diligence, competition studies/sector).
Candidate profile
PROFILE SOUGHT AND SKILLS
Level of study: Student in Master Economics / Finance within a Cameroonian university institution. Skills & Qualities: Proficiency in manipulating numbers and strong interest in financial analysis. Versatility, curiosity for different sectors and proactivity. Strong motivation for development issues. Rigor and excellent writing and synthesis skills. Mastery of analytical tools. Essential command of French and English. Asset: A previous internship in investment banking or corporate finance. Imperative condition: Internship must be agreed with a Cameroonian university.
