Joining the British Council as a valued team member, you contribute to our mission of fostering peace and prosperity by fostering meaningful connections, mutual understanding, and trust between individuals in the UK and across over 200 countries and territories. With a rich history spanning more than nine decades, we empower brighter futures through our work in education, arts, culture, language, and creativity, operating in over 100 countries worldwide. In this role, you will support the Arts & Culture program team by ensuring the effective delivery of programs and contracts in alignment with British Council policies and procedures. This includes financial administration, reporting, data collection and analysis, evaluation, operational project execution, and cultivating strong relationships with delivery partners. Key responsibilities involve providing comprehensive project and program management support, overseeing data management, compliance, grants administration, procurement, event coordination, and training delivery. You will ensure precise data collection and analysis, maintain meticulous records in accordance with organizational standards, facilitate due diligence processes, and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within programs. The role also entails building and nurturing collaborative relationships with clients, partners, stakeholders, vendors, and suppliers to guarantee service delivery against agreed terms and performance benchmarks. Additionally, you will coordinate with stakeholders to facilitate successful program delivery while upholding accountability and compliance with internal policies. From a financial management standpoint, you will monitor project budgets, track expenditures, assist with financial forecasting, maintain accurate financial records, and ensure timely vendor payments in accordance with SAP Finance and British Council guidelines. Strict adherence to internal financial controls and external funder requirements is essential. The position demands the capacity to work autonomously, manage competing priorities efficiently, and meet project deadlines. Furthermore, you will promote an inclusive, anti-racist, and equitable work environment by supporting colleagues’ well-being, valuing diversity, and actively contributing to the organization’s equality, diversity, and inclusion objectives. Essential requirements include a Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated experience in an arts-related field. Desirable qualifications include prior support experience in program or contract management, expertise in administrative and financial administration and reporting, a solid grasp of monitoring and evaluation principles, and experience collaborating with external partners and stakeholders. This position is based in Rwanda, and candidates must possess the legal right to live and work in the country, as visa sponsorship and relocation assistance are not provided. The role falls under British Council Pay Band 4 and is an indefinite contract. Applications close on 6 September 2

Expert Application Advice

When applying to British Council, clearly show how you’ve met SAP with a concrete example from your past work—numbers or results add impact. This proves you understand their needs, not just your ambitions.

Positioning — Your cover letter must answer one question: why YOU for THIS specific role right NOW? Avoid generic templates — one sentence on what you specifically bring beats three generic paragraphs.

Targeted application — Align your CV to this offer's exact keywords and back every claimed skill with a concrete example. A cover letter showing you understand the specific challenges of this role consistently makes the difference.

  • Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
