About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the role:

Reporting to the Country Director, the Programme Development Manager plays a leading role in developing our evidence-based programme strategy, quality management, and impact. You will ensure that our work in Syria is needs-driven and results-based as well as remaining closely monitored and funded in timely and appropriate ways. You will work in close collaboration with our programme team in Syria, the regional management unit, and MAG’s global support teams, to develop and adapt our forward-looking operational and funding development strategy. You will act as a key representative of MAG’s Syria programme to ensure that MAG is recognised for its leadership and coordination in humanitarian mine action to donors, peer organisations, partners, humanitarian fora, and coordination bodies. You will foster crosscutting initiatives to enhance diversity, integrity, inclusiveness, and accountability within our programme teams, and will ultimately take responsibility for programme development and implementation. This is a challenging and varied role which offers the opportunity to effect meaningful change and grow our lifesaving work in Syria.

About the Syria programme:

MAG has been responding to the Syria crisis since 2013, working to support development by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury.

  • Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
