About the role: Our client is seeking a The Senior Health & Safety Officer is tasked with delivering focused Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) leadership throughout night-shift operations, ensuring adherence to company policies, client-specific HSE standards, and Zambian occupational health and safety regulations. This position is vital for sustaining a secure working environment, fostering a proactive safety culture, and guaranteeing that all construction, earthworks, and mining activities are executed safely and efficiently. Candidates should ideally possess relevant experience in construction, earthworks, and/or mining, alongside a recognized health and safety qualification and prior oversight of night-shift operations. Key Responsibilities: Dedicated HSE supervision will be provided throughout night-shift operations at the project site. Ensure adherence to organizational HSE policies, client-specific safety protocols, and relevant statutory regulations. Perform regular site inspections, safety audits, and workplace hazard assessments to ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations. Ensure strict adherence to established safe work procedures, permit-to-work systems, and risk mitigation measures by all personnel. Oversee potentially hazardous tasks such as excavation, earthworks, heavy machinery operations, lifting procedures, confined space entry, and elevated work. Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and shift handovers to actively promote and uphold safe work practices. Conduct thorough investigations into incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions, promptly documenting findings and executing corrective measures to mitigate risks. Ensure strict adherence to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protocols by all contractors and employees. Unsafe work must be halted immediately when warranted, and suitable corrective or preventive measures should be proposed to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with safety standards. Provide assistance during emergency response efforts and maintain the readiness and availability of emergency equipment. Maintain precise records pertaining to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, including inspection reports, incident documentation, and compliance-related files.
