Senior Data Management Specialist
Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is seeking a skilled Data Officer to be based in Yamamoto, where they will provide critical support to the Vector Control and Product Testing Unit (VC PTU). This role is centered on maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and security of data derived from both laboratory and field studies. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of data handling, including collection, entry, validation, analysis, storage, and protection, ensuring compliance with stringent quality standards. Their duties will extend to establishing and sustaining systems that meet Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) requirements, thereby guaranteeing data traceability, consistency, and adherence to regulatory frameworks. Additionally, the officer will play a pivotal role in strengthening evidence-based decision-making by developing robust data systems, enabling real-time monitoring, and facilitating comprehensive statistical reporting across key initiatives such as malaria vector control, insecticide resistance surveillance, and product evaluation trials. Responsabilités
Data Management & Quality Assurance: Develop and oversee robust data management systems and databases, including tools such as Redcap, OK, and SQL, ensuring their optimal functionality and reliability. Responsibilities include managing data entry operations, ensuring accuracy through validation, performing thorough cleaning of datasets, and eliminating duplicate records to maintain data integrity. Perform systematic evaluations of data integrity through routine audits and introduce corrective actions to enhance overall quality standards. Ensure the integrity, security, and confidentiality of data, as well as provide robust support for data collection tools and systems. Develop digital data collection tools leveraging platforms such as OK, KoboToolbox, and Survey CTO. Provide guidance and oversight to field teams to ensure they are proficient in accurate data collection methods and the appropriate application of required tools. Monitor real-time incoming data streams and deliver timely feedback to data collectors to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses utilizing software such as State, R, SPSS, or Python. Develop comprehensive dashboards, succinct summaries, and in-depth analytical reports tailored for both internal teams and external partners. Contribute to donor reports, publications, and presentations by providing comprehensive data support. Assist in compiling and analyzing data to enhance the quality and impact of reports, publications, and presentations. Ensure accuracy and relevance of data presented to donors, maintaining meticulous documentation throughout the process. Ensure thorough documentation of data workflows, metadata, codebooks, and analysis scripts is maintained at all times. Provide assistance with system backups, server and database upkeep, as well as version control management. Deliver continuous guidance and educational sessions to project personnel regarding data management protocols. Collaborate closely with the IT and Monitoring & Evaluation teams to ensure all data-related requirements are fully addressed.

Desired Skills: Demonstrated expertise in one or more programming languages, including Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, PHP, and SQL. Seeking demonstrated expertise in data analysis tools such as Python, STATE, R, and MATLAB. Seeking candidates with strong skills in statistical software, with a preference for expertise in R. Proficient in utilizing cloud-based platforms, including but not limited to Google Cloud and AWS. Expertise in data management and advanced data analysis techniques is essential. Possesses a thorough grasp of data protection regulations and the ethical principles governing data handling. Demonstrated capacity to function autonomously, collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, and contribute meaningfully to extensive research initiatives. Candidates should demonstrate a strong desire to enroll in both the Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs within a relevant academic discipline.
Expérience
Essential Qualifications: Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Health Informatics, or a closely related discipline.
Desired Experience: Professionals should possess a minimum of two to three years of hands-on experience in data management or monitoring and evaluation, with a preference for candidates who have worked within the health, research, or development domains. Experience in developing mobile applications. A background in publishing within international peer-reviewed journals is considered advantageous. Experience in developing web-based database applications.
Preferred Language: Demonstrates strong proficiency in both verbal and written English communication, coupled with the ability to deliver clear and compelling presentations.
