INTRODUCTION
The Belgian Red Cross-Flanders (Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen, RKV) is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Adherence to the seven Fundamental Principles – Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality – is at the core of all our actions. In close collaboration with the local Red Cross Society in each country and its many volunteers, RKV, as a sister National Society, focuses on implementing projects related to first aid, blood donor recruitment and management, disaster preparedness, and emergency response, primarily in Africa. In the coming years, RKV will further strengthen its expertise-driven strategy to maximize the impact of its in-house expertise and operations in humanitarian contexts where needs are particularly high. Professionalism, integrity, initiative, and teamwork are essential core values within the organization. RKV is seeking a Project Manager in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) who will also serve as Country Representative and manage the ongoing partnership with the Red Cross Society of the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a particular focus on first aid, blood services, and emergency disaster response.
POSITION
The Project Manager represents the Belgian Red Cross-Flanders (RKV) with the Red Cross Society of the Democratic Republic of Congo (CRRDC), donors, and other humanitarian actors in the country. You will report directly to one of RKV’s Regional Managers, who in turn reports to the Head of International Cooperation at headquarters. You will ensure the effective management of projects related to First Aid, blood services, and emergency disaster response, implemented by the CRRDC with financial and technical support from RKV.
RKV relies on your skills in project planning and communication, detailed financial monitoring, and stakeholder management. Overall accountability as Project Manager is a critical success factor. Key Responsibilities You are responsible for the overall management of the projects, both operationally and financially. You facilitate a professional relationship between RKV and CRRDC to ensure positive and constructive collaboration. You develop a security framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo based on the general rules and guidelines of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement and/or RKV headquarters. You manage potential security incidents in collaboration with RKV headquarters. You ensure the proper implementation of RKV’s integrity framework within the delegation and across RKV-supported projects. You support investigations into potential integrity incidents under the supervision of RKV headquarters.
You hold a university Master’s degree in science, economics, or a related field. Knowledge of medical sciences, first aid, blood banking, and/or data management is considered an asset. At a minimum, you have a strong interest in these areas and are willing to act as a knowledgeable ambassador for the organization.
Expérience
You have at least 5 years of experience in project management. Experience in a results-oriented environment is an advantage. Experience within the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement is a plus. Fluency in spoken and written French, English, and Dutch is essential.
OUR OFFER
A demanding yet highly rewarding international experience based in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. A unique opportunity to strengthen the RKV delegation and support a recently established partnership with the Red Cross Society of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The chance to work in a continuously improving and growing environment. Employment within a humanitarian organization that is evidence-based and values scientific expertise as a core principle. A competitive salary package, including housing and transportation facilities. This is not a family posting. An open-ended employment contract. Expert Application Advice
Required experience — This role requires 5 years: each role in your CV must show clear progression with measurable results — not just generic responsibilities.
Positioning — Your cover letter must answer one question: why YOU for THIS specific role right NOW? Avoid generic templates — one sentence on what you specifically bring beats three generic paragraphs.
Complex projects — Prepare a project example: total budget, duration, team size, major risks managed and results vs. defined indicators. Formal framework mastery (PMI, PRINCE2) is often tested.

- •Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
- •Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
- •Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
- •Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
- •Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
- •A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
