Read more about this company Chief Security Officer (CSO) Job Type Full Time Qualification BA/BSc/HND , MBA/MSc/MA Experience 10 years Location Lagos Job Field Security / Intelligence   Job Purpose To ensure that all processes of theft detection, investigation, and prevention are effective and efficient. To oversee the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive security strategies to safeguard the company's assets, personnel, operations, and reputation across all export markets. To ensure full compliance with international trade laws, protect supply chains, mitigate risks related to piracy, theft, and cyber threats, and respond effectively to security incidents. Core Responsibilities and Key Result Areas Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the overall security strategy aligned with the company's commodity export operations. Advise the Executive Team on potential security risks and mitigation strategies. Enforce the security policy of the company on all staff, customers, and visitors to the company premises to ensure law and order Asset and Cargo Protection: Design and implement procedures to protect goods during storage, handling, transport, and shipping. Work closely with logistics, warehousing, and freight partners to ensure secure supply chains. Physical Security: Oversee security at the warehouses, offices, and export terminals. Implement access control systems, surveillance, and monitoring solutions. Prepare and disseminate security awareness information to all staff within the company to ensure their safety. Guarantee the availability of armed policemen for escort and armed response. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant export control laws, international security standards, and customs requirements. Manage security audits and certifications Crisis Management: Develop emergency response plans for incidents suchas cargo theft, piracy, supply chain disruption, and cyberattacks. Lead investigations and liaise with law enforcement, insurers, and regulators as needed. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct security risk assessments in new and existing markets. Recommend and implement preventive measures to reduce operational risks. Carry out periodic security audits and inspections of subsidiaries. Team Management: Build and manage an internal security team and external security vendors. Lead training and awareness programs for employees and contractors. Key Performance Indicators Reduction in security incidents, missing company assets, and cargo losses. Compliance rate with security and export regulations. Response time and effectiveness during security incidents. Employee security training completion rates. Security audit and certification pass rates. Desicion Expectations The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is expected to set the company’s overall security strategy, identify and manage risks, and lead decision-making during security incidents or emergencies. They approve security policies and procedures, select appropriate security technologies, and manage relationships with external vendors. The CSO decides on the allocation of the security budget, oversees the hiring and training of security personnel, ensures compliance with legal and regulatory standards, and reports critical security updates and risks to senior management. Requirements Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, Risk Management, Criminal Justice, International Trade, or related field. A master’s Degree is an added advantage Professional Qualification: Professional certifications (e.g., CPP, CISM, CISSP) Experience: 10+ years in security leadership roles, preferably within commodity trading, export, or logistics sectors. Familiarity with international export regulations and supply chain security standards. Competency Requirements: Knowledge Requirements: Excellent knowledge of MS Office packages Skill Requirement: Strong leadership and strategic thinking abilities. Excellent knowledge of security protocols, crisis management, and investigation techniques. Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure in complex, international environments. Willingness to travel both locally and internationally, sometimes to high-risk regions. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion. Personal Abilities: Knowledge of physical security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control). Ability to conduct risk assessments and security audits. Experience in incident response and crisis management. Familiarity with compliance standards Skills in developing and enforcing security policies. Knowledge of data protection and information security. Ability to manage security vendors and contracts. Experience with security technology evaluation and upgrades. Good technical report writing and documentation skills.
