Remote | Project-Based Contractual Consultant Introducing a critical remote, project-based consulting opportunity at HEOR Africa. Why can’t African health systems simply borrow cost-effectiveness results from other countries? Because costs, disease patterns, health system capacity, and budgets differ entirely. At HEOR Africa, we are dedicated to producing rigorous, locally relevant evidence for decision-makers across Africa. We are building our roster of elite, project-based consultants and are hiring a remote, contractual Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) Specialist to design, adapt, and implement health economic models on a per-project basis. In this remote contractual role, you will collaborate virtually with our teams in Kigali and Addis Ababa, ensuring our funding and policy analyses are transparent, reproducible, and meet CHEERS 2022 standards. Key Responsibilities: Design, adapt, and implement health economic models, including cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses, on a per-project basis. Conduct remote literature reviews, data extraction, and localized costing studies. Prepare payer evidence packages, value dossiers, and transparent reports for assigned projects. Collaborate on reproducible, version-controlled analytic pipelines and support virtual R-based training or capacity-building. Translate findings into actionable insights, collaborating virtually with ministries, payers, donors, and industry partners to inform resource allocation. Qualifications & Skills: Education: Master’s degree or higher in Health Economics, Public Health, Epidemiology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Biostatistics, or a related discipline. Technical Skills: Advanced health economic modeling (cost-effectiveness, budget impact), outcomes research, and proficiency in R or similar statistical software. Experience with evidence synthesis and CHEERS/reporting standards. Clinical & Sector Knowledge: Foundational medicine and clinical understanding to interpret disease pathways, treatment patterns, and clinical guidelines. Knowledge of occupational health and health promotion to inform public health and preventive modeling. Engagement: Exceptional communication and virtual stakeholder engagement skills to present complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Work Style: Ability to work independently as a remote contractor, manage project-specific deliverables, communicate effectively across time zones, and adhere to reproducible, version-controlled workflows. Prior experience with African health systems is essential.

Expert Application Advice

When applying to HEOR Africa, don't just list your duties—prove how you meet R with concrete examples from your past work. Use numbers (patients served, tests run, procedures completed) to show impact. This makes your application stand out immediately.

Positioning — Your cover letter must answer one question: why YOU for THIS specific role right NOW? Avoid generic templates — one sentence on what you specifically bring beats three generic paragraphs.

Professional registration — Clearly state your training institution and its accreditation. For NGO health roles, additional community health or emergency care training is often decisive.

🎯 Make your application ATS-ready

ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) are the software recruiters use to automatically filter CVs before any human reads them. Our CV builder is specifically designed to pass these filters — and it takes under 3 minutes.

  • •Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • •Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • •Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • •Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • •Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • •A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
