Job Title: Hotel Housekeeping Manager

Location: Ikeja, Lagos

Job Summary: The Hotel Housekeeping Manager is responsible for managing and supervising the hotel’s housekeeping operations to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, presentation, and guest comfort. The position oversees guest rooms, public areas, laundry, housekeeping staff, supplies, and related facilities while ensuring compliance with the hotel’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Overall Housekeeping Management: Oversee the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department. Ensure all guest rooms, public areas, corridors, offices, and back-of-house areas are maintained to the required standards. Develop and enforce effective housekeeping procedures and checklists. Ensure consistent implementation of the hotel’s SOPs.

Guest Room Inspection: Conduct daily inspections of guest rooms to ensure cleanliness, presentation, and functionality. Verify that rooms are properly cleaned, arranged, and ready for sale. Ensure special requests, VIP rooms, honeymoon arrangements, and other guest requirements are properly handled. Report maintenance defects identified during room inspections.

Public Area Management: Ensure all hotel public areas are clean, attractive, hygienic, and properly maintained. Supervise the cleaning of lobbies, restaurants, corridors, staircases, elevators, meeting rooms, restrooms, and other common areas. Maintain appropriate cleaning schedules for all public areas.

Staff Supervision & Management: Supervise Housekeeping Supervisors, Room Attendants, Cleaners, Laundry Staff, and other housekeeping personnel. Prepare duty rosters and allocate staff according to operational requirements. Monitor attendance, punctuality, grooming, conduct, and performance. Train, coach, and develop housekeeping staff. Address staff performance and disciplinary issues in accordance with hotel policy.

Linen & Laundry Management: Oversee the hotel’s linen and laundry operations. Ensure adequate availability of clean bed sheets, towels, pillowcases, uniforms, and other linen. Monitor linen movement and prevent losses or unauthorized usage. Ensure proper sorting, washing, drying, ironing, folding, and storage of linen. Monitor laundry equipment and report faults promptly.

Inventory & Supplies Control: Maintain adequate stocks of cleaning chemicals, toiletries, amenities, linen, uniforms, and housekeeping supplies. Conduct regular stock checks and participate in periodic inventory counts. Monitor consumption and minimize wastage. Ensure proper storage and handling of cleaning chemicals and other supplies. Prepare requisitions for housekeeping materials when required.

Quality Control: Establish and maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation. Conduct routine quality inspections and spot checks. Monitor guest feedback relating to cleanliness and housekeeping services. Investigate complaints and implement corrective measures. Ensure housekeeping standards are consistently maintained.

Health, Safety & Hygiene: Ensure compliance with hotel hygiene and safety standards. Ensure staff use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely. Train staff on proper handling and storage of chemicals. Ensure proper procedures are followed when handling lost property and guest belongings. Report accidents, incidents, and safety hazards to management.

Lost & Found Management: Establish and maintain an effective Lost & Found procedure. Ensure all items recovered from guest rooms and public areas are properly recorded, secured, and handed over according to hotel policy. Maintain accurate Lost & Found records.

Maintenance Coordination: Report defective equipment, plumbing problems, electrical faults, air-conditioning issues, damaged furniture, and other room defects to the Maintenance Department. Follow up to ensure reported defects are resolved promptly. Coordinate room maintenance and deep-cleaning schedules.

Cost Control: Monitor housekeeping expenses and control operational costs. Minimize wastage of cleaning materials, amenities, linen, water, and other resources. Monitor productivity and staffing levels. Recommend cost-saving measures without compromising service quality.

Room Status & Coordination: Work closely with the Front Office Department to maintain accurate room status. Ensure clean and inspected rooms are promptly released for sale. Coordinate room cleaning priorities based on arrivals, departures, stayovers, VIPs, and special requests. Ensure out-of-order and out-of-service rooms are properly documented.

Reporting: Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly housekeeping reports. Report room status, linen usage, inventory levels, maintenance issues, staff performance, and operational challenges. Provide recommendations to the Operations Manager or General Manager for improvement.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree, HND, OND, or relevant professional qualification in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Tourism, or a related field. Minimum of 8 years’ practical experience in the hotel/hospitality industry, with substantial hands-on experience in Housekeeping. Previous experience as a Housekeeping Manager, Executive Housekeeper, Assistant Housekeeping Manager, or senior housekeeping supervisor is highly desirable. Strong practical knowledge of hotel housekeeping operations and international/local hospitality standards. Excellent knowledge of room cleaning procedures, public area cleaning, laundry operations, linen management, and housekeeping inventory control. Good knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, hygiene, and safety procedures. Ability to train, supervise, motivate, and discipline housekeeping staff effectively. Good knowledge of hotel Property Management Systems (PMS) and Microsoft Office applications is an advantage. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple operational priorities. High level of integrity, professionalism, discipline, and accountability.

Experience Requirements: Minimum of 8 years’ proven practical experience in the hotel/hospitality industry, with strong hands-on experience in Housekeeping operations, room inspection, laundry, linen management, staff supervision, and quality control.
