Earth Resilience Initiative (ERI), a youth-led environmental and community resilience organization headquartered in Rwanda, integrates climate education with hands-on environmental initiatives such as school engagement, reforestation, and locally driven projects. We are inviting skilled volunteers to collaborate with our team in designing impactful projects and crafting compelling funding proposals that could transform these ideas into reality. This unpaid, remote, project-based volunteer role welcomes both Rwandan and international applicants.

Your primary responsibility will be to assist ERI in converting community needs and preliminary concepts into well-structured project proposals, then identifying appropriate funding sources and preparing persuasive applications. While the scope extends beyond water-focused initiatives, potential projects may span climate education, environmental restoration, water resilience, youth engagement, or other initiatives aligned with ERI’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the development of new project ideas and enhancement of existing concepts by leveraging community insights and empirical evidence. Draft concept notes and proposals that clearly outline objectives, activities, timelines, and measurable outcomes. Collaborate with ERI to create realistic budgets grounded in verified local expense data. Conduct thorough grant research to evaluate eligibility criteria, requirements, and submission deadlines. Draft, refine, and finalize funding applications and supporting documentation for ERI’s review and approval. Manage application timelines, compile proposal materials, and track follow-up actions. Identify potential partners who can contribute to project design or execution, where applicable.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Professional experience in project development, proposal writing, grant research, or related fields. Exceptional written communication in English, coupled with strong research and editing capabilities. The capacity to transform abstract ideas into actionable, well-defined plans. A demonstrated commitment to climate action, environmental sustainability, and community-driven development. A collaborative mindset, meticulous attention to detail, and dependable communication skills. Proficiency in remote collaboration using shared documents and spreadsheets. Prior experience in budget preparation or monitoring and evaluation frameworks is advantageous. While a formal degree in a relevant field may be beneficial, practical expertise and hands-on experience will be prioritized.

Collaboration Approach:

ERI will provide local expertise, community perspectives, field data, and logistical support, while you contribute by refining project structures, enhancing proposal clarity, and sharing your professional insights. We will establish a feasible initial assignment, define a reasonable time commitment, and agree on a timeline based on your availability. Travel to Rwanda is not a requirement for this position, and the role is strictly unpaid.

  • Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
