Job description: Job purpose in summary The QA/QC Blast Holes (Dipping Hand) is tasked with performing quality assurance and quality control inspections on drilled and loaded blast holes to verify adherence to blast design specifications, safety protocols, and operational mandates. This position enhances the safety, efficiency, and productivity of blasting operations by meticulously measuring, documenting, and communicating blast hole conditions and any deviations prior to charging and detonation. All responsibilities are executed in strict accordance with company policies, management frameworks, regulatory requirements, and established standard operating procedures. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate must comply with all applicable health, safety, environment, and quality policies, procedures, and legal regulations, as well as financial, human resources, and other relevant company policies and regulations based on the role’s level and functional responsibilities. Perform comprehensive quality assurance and quality control inspections on both drilled and loaded blast holes to confirm adherence to approved blast designs and established operational standards. Prior to charging operations, accurately measure, dip, and document the depths and conditions of blast holes. Review blast holes to detect any that are collapsed, blocked, short-drilled, or over-drilled, and flag these for corrective action while formally documenting and reporting the findings. Verify and log stemming heights in preloaded blast holes to confirm adherence to established blasting specifications. Before initiating blasting operations, conduct a thorough inspection of loaded blast holes to verify that explosive loading parameters comply with specified design requirements. Ensure that any blast holes that have been over-drilled are backfilled correctly and documented in strict adherence to approved procedures. Maintain precise quality assurance and quality control documentation, including measurements and inspection reports, to ensure blast hole quality standards are met. Communicate any drilling deviations, quality-related discrepancies, and safety concerns promptly to the AQC Area Supervisor to facilitate timely resolution. Facilitate the successful execution of drilling and blasting activities by collaborating closely with field crews to ensure adherence to safety protocols, operational efficiency, and productivity targets. Compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards is mandatory when operating within the blast area. QUALIFICATIONS Holders of a Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate or an equivalent qualification are eligible to apply. Proven ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment. Strong proficiency in both verbal and written communication is required. Problem-solving and analytical skills Capable of executing tasks autonomously with limited oversight, demonstrating strong self-discipline and the ability to manage workloads effectively without constant direction. OPERTIONAL REQUIREMENTS Demonstrates resilience and composure in high-pressure environments, maintaining productivity and performance standards while meeting tight deadlines. Proven capability to effectively prioritize and manage a diverse range of tasks simultaneously, ensuring timely and accurate completion while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. Dependability and the ability to work independently are essential qualities for this role. Proficient in typing and written communication with a high degree of accuracy and clarity. Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to interact effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Proven capacity to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Meticulous and thorough attention to detail is essential for this role.
