The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is actively seeking a GIS & Data Coordinator to oversee the structured management, quality assurance, validation, and interpretation of geospatial and non-spatial datasets generated by conservation initiatives across critical landscapes and protected areas in Africa. This role will be stationed in Kigali, Rwanda, within the Africa Protected Areas Management Unit (AP AMU) and will report directly to the Conservation Impact Manager. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with WCS field teams, site-level technical staff, the WCS Global Conservation Technology team, and the AP AMU unit. Key Responsibilities Data Management & Analysis Develop and sustain a unified GIS database encompassing Africa’s conservation datasets, ensuring seamless integration and accessibility. Clean, standardize, and harmonize geospatial datasets to inform strategic conservation decisions. Design and generate high-resolution maps and geospatial visualizations tailored to planning, monitoring, and reporting needs. Guide field teams in adopting and implementing consistent data collection and analytical workflows. Deliver hands-on training on essential tools such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, KoboToolbox, SMART, Earth Ranger, Eco scope, and other conservation technologies. Centralize, authenticate, structure, and rigorously validate data from diverse sources to ensure reliability. Perform intermediate-level analysis to detect patterns, discrepancies, and actionable insights. Conduct field assessments to verify data integrity and strengthen local data governance frameworks. Provide targeted technical guidance to field teams to enhance data completeness and accuracy. Compile and present data summaries, maps, and visual reports as needed. MEL Coordination & Support Offer direct technical assistance and capacity-building to field teams, facilitating proficient use of GIS platforms, Earth Ranger, SMART, KoboToolbox, and other conservation software. Assist in establishing clear documentation of methodologies, technical standards, and data-management protocols. Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and cross-program data audits to promote best practices and inter-team alignment. Qualification Requirements Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Science, Data Science, or a closely related discipline. A minimum of three years of professional experience in data coordination, management, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), or a comparable technical discipline is essential. Proficiency in GIS software, with a strong command of CGIS and ESR/ArcGIS products, is required. Practical experience with conservation technology platforms is highly desirable. Familiarity with
