CONTACT is recruiting a HSE Advisor, to be based in Afungi, Mozambique.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Afungi HSE Superintendent, with a functional reporting line to the Upstream HSE Manager, the successful applicant will oversee and assure compliance with Health, Safety and Environment requirements across the Project’s onshore and nearshore activities. The role will also provide HSE support and advice to Company personnel, contractors and subcontractors.

Ensure compliance with HSE plans, systems, processes, procedures and contractual obligations; monitor contractor and subcontractor activities and performance; represent the Company and provide HSE advice during weekly construction meetings; contribute to safety studies, audits and reviews, including Management of Change (MoC) processes.

Review contractors’ safe systems of work, including hazard identification, Permit to Work (PTW), risk assessments and Toolbox Talks (TBTs); support incident investigations and ensure the rigorous identification of root causes; verify the accurate recording and reporting of HSE statistics; promote safety initiatives and programmes.

Monitor the preparation and circulation of HSE audit, progress and performance reports; ensure the implementation of effective controls for risks associated with construction, transportation and heavy-lifting operations; promote safe behaviours and contribute to a zero-harm culture.

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field. Recognised Health, Safety and Environment qualification, preferably a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.

Expérience

Minimum of 10 years’ professional experience in the oil and gas industry, with relevant HSE experience. Experience in overseeing contractors’ and subcontractors’ HSE activities. Experience in leading and coordinating incident investigations, root-cause analysis and the implementation of lessons learnt. Experience in conducting detailed HSE audits. Sound technical knowledge of HSE management systems, hazard identification, Permit to Work, risk assessment, Management of Change and Toolbox Talks. Fluency in English. Ability to train, coach, mentor, support and influence personnel at different levels. Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors and their personnel. Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to incident prevention.
