JOB OPPORTUNITY: BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR – PRIVATE SECTOR & INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERSHIPS (INT11721) The Business Development Coordinator will facilitate strategic partnerships between our organization and private sector entities, as well as institutional stakeholders. This role involves identifying and cultivating opportunities to enhance collaboration and drive mutual growth. Responsibilities include managing relationship-building initiatives, coordinating partnership agreements, and supporting the development of joint projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and experience in business development or partnership management. Proficiency in stakeholder engagement and contract negotiation is essential. One-third of the global population lives in poverty, a challenge Oxfam is committed to addressing by harnessing collective action. Job Summary: The Business Development Coordinator – Private Sector & Institutional Partnerships is responsible for driving strategic coordination, managing pipeline initiatives, and fostering partnership development to enhance Oxfam’s collaboration with private sector entities, institutional donors, and key financing opportunities throughout the Southern Africa (SAF) Cluster. This position is tasked with developing, overseeing, and expanding a diverse regional funding and partnership network encompassing private sector entities, corporate partners, institutional donors, foundations, and innovative financing solutions. It guarantees that all business development initiatives are strategically aligned, ethically grounded, compliant with regulations, and contribute to program excellence, long-term financial sustainability, and Oxfam’s overarching systems-change objectives. Reporting to the Business Development Lead, the role serves as a key coordination hub across country teams, thematic program leaders, partnership frameworks, and Oxfam affiliates. It ensures proactive engagement, enhances competitive positioning, minimizes fragmentation, and bolsters the Cluster’s capacity to secure and effectively manage high-value strategic partnerships. Additionally, this position serves as the central hub for coordination within the Cluster, enhances the capabilities of country teams, and aids in establishing a sustainable funding structure that accelerates Oxfam’s shift toward a partner-driven, regionally integrated, and financially diversified operational framework. The role demands advanced technical proficiency, strategic foresight, and strong analytical skills, coupled with the capacity to work independently within a multifaceted, cross-border, partner-led setting.

EXPERIENCE

, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES Essential A master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Development Studies, International Relations, or a closely related discipline is required. With a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in business development, partnerships, institutional fundraising, and private sector engagement, including at least two to three years in a team leadership or coordination capacity. Demonstrated expertise in engaging with private sector entities, managing relationships, and facilitating coordination among diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated expertise in cultivating and maintaining client relationships, coupled with exceptional communication abilities and a forward-thinking strategic mindset. Experienced in collaborating with national or regional partners to facilitate program implementation, with a strong track record of operating effectively in multi-country or multi-stakeholder environments. Demonstrates exceptional aptitude for cultivating trusting, professional relationships with both internal stakeholders and external partners. Organisations. Proficient in both written and verbal English communication, with demonstrated abilities in influencing and persuasion. A strong sense of self-awareness, coupled with high personal energy, resilience, and adaptability. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting and to engage constructively with colleagues from other teams. Demonstrates strict adherence to Oxfam’s safeguarding policies to guarantee the safety and protection of every individual interacting with the organization. Desirable Demonstrates a strong dedication to Oxfam’s core mission and guiding principles, with a proven track record in championing gender equality, fostering diversity, and advancing the rights of marginalized communities across all organizational activities. Capable of and prepared to undertake regular travel, including on short notice, both within the local area and across the broader region. A high degree of fluency in both written and spoken English is essential, with strong proficiency in Portuguese considered a valuable asset. Contract Type: Renewable on a one-year basis, contingent upon the continued availability of funding, this position is designated as a fixed-term appointment.
