One Acre Fund is seeking a Senior Associate (Renewable) in Agroforestry Cropping Systems Research Agronomist to join their Rwanda team. Established in 2006, One Acre Fund supports over 5.5 million smallholder farmers across nine African countries—home to two-thirds of the continent’s agricultural workforce—by delivering essential farm inputs, tree seedlings, accessible financing, agronomic training, and a range of agricultural services. This comprehensive approach has enabled participating farmers to boost their income and assets by an average of more than 35 percent while strengthening long-term resilience. With a team of 9,000+ full-time staff, the organization operates in diverse contexts to drive sustainable agricultural growth. Our Rwanda program, launched in 2007 under the brand Suburb, is the organization’s largest, employing over 3,000 staff across all four provinces and Kigali. In 2024 alone, we supported more than 2.8 million farmers, collaborating closely with government partners to advance national food security goals and channeling resources to arises to create market opportunities for high-value crops like coffee, avocado, and chili. In this role, you will lead integrated research on mixed annual-perennial cropping systems and farming systems, supervising a team of specialists focused on plant nutrient management, integrated pest management, and livestock integration to maximize farmer impact. You will manage a multidisciplinary team and oversee the expansion of our Soil and Plant Lab, ensuring that rigorous, high-confidence data drives decision-making from initial testing to large-scale implementation. Your responsibilities will include leading applied research in cropping and farming systems, designing and executing multidisciplinary research trials and modeling to identify scalable, high-impact systems, and co-developing strategies with specialists in integrated pest management, plant nutrient management, and livestock integration. You will assess the feasibility, risk, adoption potential, and impact of new products and practices through thorough research and analysis, developing scientifically robust methodologies, experimental designs, and impact models to guide strategic decisions. Additionally, you will oversee trial implementation and data quality, synthesize complex datasets into actionable insights, and translate findings into scalable recommendations, products, and operational interventions, including extension materials. You will also provide strategic leadership for Soil and Plant Laboratory operations, ensuring quality, capability, and alignment with departmental priorities while driving process efficiency and continuous improvement.
