In Zambia, Save the Children has been actively implementing programs since 1983, focusing on key areas including Child Rights Governance, Health and Nutrition, Child Protection, Education, Child Poverty, and Humanitarian Response. Save the Children, in collaboration with Vāyu Global Health and the Ministry of Health (MOH), and with financial support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Charities (LDSC), is set to launch an initiative aimed at improving healthcare outcomes in underserved communities. Enhancing Healthcare Services for Preterm and Ill Newborns in Zambia The initiative seeks to lower neonatal mortality rates at healthcare facilities by enhancing access to superior respiratory care via bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) technology. It will also reinforce referral and transfer mechanisms for critically ill newborns while building the competencies of healthcare professionals across Lusaka, Central, and Southern Provinces. Implementation will occur in ten district-level public health facilities equipped with 24-hour inpatient newborn care units. Through evidence-based clinical protocols, health system reinforcement, workforce development, mentorship, quality enhancement, and the sustainable incorporation of BiPAP services into standard newborn care, the project will elevate the standard of care for small and preterm infants. ROLE PURPOSE The Project Manager will be responsible for providing comprehensive leadership, strategic guidance, and meticulous coordination throughout the execution of the project. Additionally, they will ensure diligent oversight to guarantee alignment with organizational objectives and deliverables. This position is tasked with delivering projects with excellence—on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards—while employing adaptive management strategies, fostering continuous learning, and making evidence-based decisions to drive sustainable enhancements in newborn survival and health outcomes. The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing project planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting, while engaging stakeholders, managing finances, and mitigating risks. This role ensures adherence to Save the Children’s policies, donor specifications, and Ministry of Health regulations. The Project Manager will collaborate with the Ministry of Health, Vāyu Global Health, Provincial and District Health Offices, health facility teams, professional associations, and other implementing partners to enhance local capabilities in delivering high-quality newborn respiratory care. Additionally, the role will support the establishment of sustainable systems that foster government ownership, ensuring the project’s impact extends beyond its lifespan. SCOPE OF ROLE: Reports to Head of Program Operations We are seeking an experienced Head of Program Operations to oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of our organization’s initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for managing operational frameworks, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, and driving efficiency across teams. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing operational policies, monitoring performance metrics, and optimizing resource allocation. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in program management, strong leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Additionally, you will oversee risk management, compliance, and stakeholder communication to ensure seamless program delivery. The position reports to the following individual(s): : (2) Indirect: Budget Responsibilities As the primary financial steward for the “Better Care for Small and Sick Newborns in Zambia” initiative, you will oversee and manage the allocated budget to ensure efficient resource utilization and alignment with program objectives. This role requires meticulous financial oversight, strategic allocation of funds, and accountability for expenditures to maximize impact in improving neonatal care outcomes.
