The initiative seeks to lower neonatal mortality at health facilities by enhancing respiratory care through the deployment of bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP), improving referral and transfer systems for ill newborns, and building the skills of healthcare workers across Lusaka, Central, and Southern Provinces. It will operate in ten public health facilities at the district level that offer maternity services and maintain fully functional 24-hour inpatient newborn care units. The program will elevate the standard of care for small and sick newborns by applying evidence-based clinical practices, strengthening health systems, building capacity, providing mentorship, driving quality improvements, and ensuring the sustainable integration of BiPAP services into routine newborn care. ROLE PURPOSE The Project Manager will assume overall leadership, offer strategic guidance, coordinate efforts, and provide meticulous oversight throughout the implementation phase. Enhanced Care for Premature and Ill Newborns in Zambia The position is tasked with delivering project activities of exceptional quality, on schedule, and within budget, utilizing adaptive management strategies, ongoing learning, and data-driven decision-making to drive measurable enhancements in newborn survival and health outcomes. The Project Manager will oversee all aspects of project execution, including planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, stakeholder engagement, financial oversight, and risk management. They will ensure adherence to Save the Children’s policies and procedures, donor requirements, and Ministry of Health standards. As the Project Manager, you will collaborate extensively with the Ministry of Health, Vāyu Global Health, Provincial and District Health Offices, health facility teams, professional associations, and other implementing partners to enhance local capabilities in delivering high-quality newborn respiratory care. Additionally, you will support the development of systems that ensure sustainability and foster government ownership, enabling long-term impact beyond the project’s duration. SCOPE OF ROLE: Reports to Program Operations Director The Program Operations Director will provide strategic leadership and oversight to ensure the successful execution and delivery of all program activities. This role involves managing cross-functional teams, optimizing operational processes, and aligning resources to meet organizational objectives. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing operational policies, monitoring performance metrics, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive experience in program management, and a proven track record of delivering results within complex environments. Additionally, the role requires excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities to foster collaboration and achieve strategic goals.
