ABOUT GEITA GOLD MINING LTD Data Gold Mining Ltd (GGML), Tanzania’s premier gold producer, operates a single mine in the Data Region and functions as a subsidiary of Anglo Gold Ashanti, an internationally recognized gold producer headquartered in South Africa with a global presence spanning over ten countries across four continents. Located within the Lake Victoria Goldfields in Northwestern Tanzania, the mine lies approximately 85 kilometers from Mwanza City and 20 kilometers southeast of the nearest shoreline of Lake Victoria. The company maintains its primary headquarters in Data, situated just 5 kilometers west of the rapidly expanding town of Data, while also housing a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. The Opportunity The Manager, Underground Mine Production, serves as a critical leadership position at Data Mine, overseeing the Nyankansa and Data Hill Underground Mining Projects. This role is instrumental in advancing operational excellence within large-scale, trackless mining settings while upholding stringent safety and environmental protocols. The ideal candidate will provide direction for production and development initiatives, leading a specialized team to maximize performance and operational efficiency. Through innovative thinking and strategic implementation, this position seeks to elevate the productivity and effectiveness of our underground mining operations. Additionally, the Manager will work in close partnership with contractors and technical experts to meet operational objectives, reinforcing Data Mine’s dedication to operational excellence and sustainable mining practices. Key Accountabilities Identify, evaluate, and address safety risks within the underground mining environment to ensure adherence to established safety objectives. Responsible for managing underground production and development operations within extensive trackless mining environments. Partner with specialists to optimize operational efficiency and effectiveness through collaborative efforts and strategic insights. Establish and commission operations for Paste and CAF to enhance efficiency in underground work. Analyze performance data to identify opportunities for operational enhancements, ensuring alignment with production and cost objectives.
Deliver to production and cost targets. Effectively convey critical processes to the team to enhance overall performance and ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Facilitate comprehension of critical processes among team members to enhance overall productivity and efficiency. Responsible for mentoring and enhancing the skills of both new and inexperienced employees to cultivate a proficient and skilled team.
- Discover and develop potential within the team members, fostering their growth and maximizing their contributions.
- Manage underground mining contracts. Develop and execute mine planning processes and systems with the objective of improving operational efficiency. Responsible for supervising and administering underground mining agreements, ensuring strict adherence to compliance standards and achieving established performance benchmarks. Apply AGA project management standards to oversee small-scale initiatives, guaranteeing on-time and on-budget completion. Design and execute cutting-edge solutions aimed at boosting performance while cultivating an environment that embraces and encourages fresh, forward-thinking concepts.
- Build and lead the mining team. Develop and execute procedures to detect potential environmental hazards, then design and implement corrective measures in adherence to applicable regulatory standards. Dedicated to the ongoing evaluation and enhancement of resource allocation, this role focuses on aligning operational strategies with tangible outcomes while proactively uncovering opportunities for process refinement and increased efficiency.
Oversee adherence to conflict-of-interest policies, SOX control accountabilities, and relevant reporting obligations. Qualifications and Certifications A tertiary qualification in a relevant field, such as a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) or another engineering degree, is required.
- Underground Mine Managers Certificate (preferred) Experience and Skills With a minimum requirement of eight years of hands-on operational experience in underground mining settings, including at least three years in a managerial capacity, the ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of leadership and technical expertise to the role.
- Demonstrates 1–2 years of hands-on involvement in Operational Excellence (OE) projects or comparable initiatives.
Formation / DiplĂ´mes
- Experience in highly mechanized underground operations. Proficient in applying established contract management and project management standards to minor to medium-scale projects.
