CHAI is in search of a driven professional with a background in public health and strong analytical abilities to collaborate with global, regional, and country-level teams, as well as government partners. This role involves assessing, designing, and expanding disease surveillance systems; performing epidemiological analysis; monitoring and evaluating ongoing efforts to reduce disease burden in targeted regions; and effectively communicating findings to inform key decisions. The position requires working closely with a cross-functional team across Lusophone and Anglophone regions of East, Central, West, and Southern Africa, with a primary focus on engaging with teams in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Uganda, alongside government programs, academic institutions, and public health organizations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication and organizational skills, a creative and pragmatic approach to applying epidemiological expertise to enhance real-world health initiatives, the ability to work autonomously to advance implementation, and a strong dedication to delivering impactful results. This position offers the flexibility to be based in a CHAI program country within the region, subject to leadership approval, with an expected travel commitment of up to 50%. Oversee and execute a diverse range of duties encompassing strategic planning, operational management, and team leadership to ensure organizational objectives are met with efficiency and precision. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and performance metrics to optimize workflows, enhance productivity, and drive continuous improvement across departments. Collaborate with senior management to align initiatives with long-term goals, fostering innovation and sustainable growth. Monitor departmental performance through regular assessments, identifying opportunities for enhancement and implementing corrective actions as needed. Manage cross-functional projects, allocate resources effectively, and ensure compliance with industry regulations and company standards. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members, cultivating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance. Serve as a key liaison between executive leadership, employees, and external stakeholders to facilitate transparent communication and foster mutually beneficial partnerships. Implement surveillance initiatives focused on the epidemiology, intervention strategies, commodity management, and entomology of diseases, specifically malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), as needed. Provide direct assistance to analytics initiatives by performing rigorous epidemiological evaluations to assess the impact of existing interventions, analyze disease trends, and guide strategic decision-making regarding malaria within the designated region.

  • Oversee the deployment and performance tracking of current and new surveillance systems and tools to enhance data collection, reporting, reporting accuracy, automated data analysis, and data visualization—such as through interactive dashboards. Contribute to fostering a data-driven culture within disease programs by enhancing the quality, analysis, and utilization of epidemiological, entomological, and programmatic data, thereby informing strategic planning and implementation for the malaria program at the country level.
  • Facilitate the establishment of standardized data review processes across all organizational levels by designing, implementing, and optimizing data collection tools and interactive dashboards, such as Tableau and DHIS2.
  • Collaborate in developing key disease program documents, such as surveillance guidelines, standard operating procedures, epidemic preparedness and response frameworks, monitoring and evaluation plans, lessons learned reports, and operational manuals. Design, execute, analyze, and disseminate operational research initiatives centered on surveillance, intervention effectiveness, and entomology. We deliver technical support, training, and on-demand programmatic assistance to staff engaged in surveillance initiatives, including data quality assurance and management, monitoring and evaluation of current programs, outbreak detection and response efforts, surveillance system evaluations, integration of health management information systems, and study implementation. Synthesize findings and effectively communicate them to national and sub-national government partners to facilitate evidence-based decision-making, delivering insights through polished presentations, comprehensive reports, and scholarly publications for both internal teams and external audiences at international conferences. Represent CHAI at external technical meetings, collaborating with local academic and technical partners to foster strategic alliances and advance shared objectives. Cultivate and sustain productive partnerships with country teams, essential stakeholders in government, non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions, in collaboration with the technical advisor. Perform any additional duties as assigned.
