BOILER MAKER Job Description: The Boilermaker is responsible for production welding tasks, including the rebuilding of pipes, as well as fabrication and quality control duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Accurately joins metal components through precise welding techniques. Materials are prepared for welding, including cutting, grinding, and cleaning of metal components. Performs all fabrication tasks through the application of specialized fabrication expertise. Facilitates input and feedback on the fabrication process, focusing on assembly sequencing, design considerations, materials selection, and fixture requirements. Rebuilds drill pipes through the precise welding of tools to ensure structural integrity and operational efficiency. Proficient in developing and refining a bit grinding techniques. Proven capability in diagnosing and resolving issues with rock tools, including hammers and bits, is essential. Proficiency in operating Class C vehicles is required, with familiarity in IAB operations serving as an additional asset. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The role necessitates regular standing, sitting, twisting, and the use of hands, fingers, and wrists for gripping, twisting, and bending to manage controls. Occasional walking, stooping, pulling, and kneeling are also required. Additionally, the position involves reaching overhead and below, with the ability to lift objects weighing between 35 and 75 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The incumbent will operate in both pit and workshop settings within a mining context, frequently encountering high noise levels necessitating the use of hearing protection. Additionally, they will regularly interact with mobile equipment and mechanical components. These environmental conditions accurately reflect the typical challenges encountered while fulfilling the core responsibilities of this position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: A minimum of three to five years of hands-on experience in welding and fabrication is required. Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, including welding diagrams and symbols, is essential. Candidates must possess strong skills in using hand tools and demonstrate a solid understanding of fabrication processes. Additionally, the ability to learn and perform a bit grinding tasks is necessary. Familiarity with repairing rock tools, such as hammers and bits, is also required. Holding a Class C driver’s license and experience operating a IAB crane are advantageous. Licensures and Certifications Obtained a Certificate in Metal Fabrication or an equivalent qualification. Education: Educational qualifications for this role include holding a Trade Certificate, Diploma, or an equivalent qualification.
